‘Another level’ pizza is coming, Idaho. The 1st restaurant will open in Meridian

Boise has plenty of mouthwatering local pizza — whether it’s takeout from Americana, a New York-style slice from Guido’s or a sit-down feast at The Wylder.

But a growing chain from a master pizza chef plans to make its own gourmet mark in the area — beginning in Meridian.

Slice House by Tony Gemignani has leased a 2,558-square-foot spot at 1582 W. Orchard Park Drive. There’s no target date for opening yet, but possibly late 2025, according to the chain.

The restaurant is part of a three-unit Idaho franchise agreement. Other potential locations for Slice House include Boise, Eagle, maybe even Garden City, Gemignani previously told the Statesman.

A California native, Gemignani opened his first restaurant, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, in San Francisco’s North Beach in 2009. He’s a 13-time world pizza champion with victories in Italy, and gold medals on Food Network. The New York Times recently highlighted him in an article about where to find great New York-style slices.

“Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely loaded — say hello to our Tony Jack Detroit!” Slice House wrote on social media. “With golden edges and a buttery crunch under layers of melted mozzarella, drizzles of ranch, and a topping spree of smoked bacon, Peppadew peppers, and a hint of honey, every bite hits the spot.”

Slice House is “elevated, chef-driven pizza,” Gemignani told the Statesman in December. It’s “much different” than most other pizza chains, he said.

“We’re on the top-tier franchises when it comes to pizza,” he said.

Customers have noticed.

“Slice House,” a fan on Reddit wrote, “is another level.”

Gemignani’s pizza, a comment in another California subreddit explained, “is art.”

Slice House offers dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering. Pizza styles include grandma, Sicilian, Detroit and New York. There are gluten-free and vegan options, too, Gemignani said.

“We offer slices all day, all night. We have a variety of different slices that are available every day. Slices get rotated.”

You can always order an entire pizza, too.

In addition to pizza, Slice House’s menu includes antipasti, pastas, salads, desserts and more. It also serves housemade spicy Hot Honey — to drizzle on pizza.

This isn’t Gemignani’s first taste of Boise. In 2020, he opened Tony G’s Pizza, a short-lived, smaller operation, in the now-defunct Crave Delivery ghost-kitchen collective in Meridian.

Slice House was unveiled as a national franchise in 2022 — “and has since seen rapid growth,” according to a press release.

Describing the brand’s allure, Gemignani brought up another famous name in the restaurant chain universe. “It’s kind of like Shake Shack in a way,” he said. “... It’s busy. It’s unique. And it’s not too chainy. We make our dough. We make our pesto in house. We do a lot of scratch items in this restaurant.

“Slice House is just different.”
