A Meridian doughnut shop ‘like no other’ just closed. This restaurant will fill the space
A Meridian shop specializing in warm, decadent doughnuts has closed.
Duck Donuts, 2126 N. Eagle Road, shuttered after a final day Saturday.
Opened in 2021 at The Village at Meridian, the store had marked the franchise chain’s Idaho debut. Despite the closure, one location remains in the Gem State — in Twin Falls.
Next up for The Village at Meridian space? Zao Asian Cafe, an expanding restaurant chain based in Utah, will take it over, according to Hugh Crawford, general manager at The Village. It’s targeting an August opening, he said in a message.
Named after Duck, North Carolina — where one of the first shops opened in 2007 — Duck Donuts has die-hard fans. With a 4.7 out of 5.0 star rating on Google, the Meridian shop was no exception.
Duck Donuts offers premade favorites — or, even better, a made-to-order process. You start with a fresh, vanilla cake doughnut. Then you coat that with deliciousness such as glaze, maple, lemon, chocolate, blueberry, vanilla, strawberry, peanut butter — or powdered or cinnamon sugar. (Or just leave it bare.) Then you hit it with a topping: maybe rainbow or chocolate sprinkles, shredded coconut, Oreo cookie pieces, graham cracker crumbs — or chopped peanuts or bacon (more bacon, please!) Lastly, you drizzle it with a finish — say, hot fudge, raspberry, salted caramel or marshmallow.
The sweet result? “Sooooo yummy and fresh,” a recent Google review proclaimed. “Like no other!!!”
In addition to doughnuts, Duck Donuts shops serve breakfast sandwiches, ice cream sundaes, shakes and beverages such as coffee, espresso and soft drinks.
Prior to becoming a Duck Donuts, the Meridian restaurant space was home to a Which Wich sandwich shop.
