‘Are you ready for us?’: New Meridian bar and restaurant to celebrate grand opening

The countdown began months ago at Voodoo Brewing Co. in Meridian, but now things are nearing blastoff.

“Who is getting thirsty?” the bar and restaurant asked on social media in February. “We are getting ready for you,” the brewery teased in early March, “are you ready for us?”

Now it’s game on.

Voodoo Brewing will celebrate its grand opening from 11 a.m. to close Saturday at 713 N. Main St. It’s the Pennsylvania-based brewery’s second Idaho location; a pub debuted in Southwest Boise last fall. Both are locally owned franchises.

Voodoo’s colorful spot in Meridian is about 3,500 square feet with a 600-square-foot patio area. It features 18 taps with Voodoo beers and guest handles. Like the Boise location, Voodoo’s beers aren’t brewed locally; they’re shipped to Idaho.

Voodoo offers plenty of variety, with canned styles available to go. Options range from Oh Mama lager, a collaboration with the rock band Styx, to a fruited, Belgian-style tripel called Voodoo Love Child. Its Good Vibes beer is a “totally righteous” West Coast IPA, it says — with “gnarly amounts” of hops to “produce bodacious dank tropical fruit notes.”

Voodoo also offers “cocktails” using its hard seltzer as a base, plus ready-to-drink canned cocktails with actual liquor.

If you’ve been to the Boise pub, you know what to expect from the Meridian food menu: burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The kitchen closes 30 minutes prior to closing. (The entire pub is closed every Monday.)

Headquartered in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Voodoo Brewing opened its first taproom in 2012. As of late, it’s exploding nationwide. So much that Voodoo Brewing franchises are sold out for the short term. “By the last count,” Voodoo Franchise Group posted online three months ago, “we have about 60 franchisees opening brewpubs at the current time.”
