This new local restaurant plans to open in Boise where a chain pizzeria closed

If you prefer local restaurants over chains, here’s good news.

A new ethnic eatery is planned where a ubiquitous national pizza purveyor went belly up.

Middle Eastern restaurant Rizzo is headed to 1003 S. Vista Ave. — right next to longtime Boise staple Quinn’s Restaurant & Lounge.

Rizzo’s is going in where a Little Caesars closed. (Don’t worry, dirt-cheap pizza is still available at several other Treasure Valley locations.) A Rizzo sign has been installed on the building’s exterior.

Target opening date? Unavailable. Owner Murtadha Kadhim did not respond to a message seeking details.

But remodeling is underway. The restaurant appears to be on track to debut this spring.

It remains to be seen whether Rizzo’s food will match established local favorites such as The Goodness Land, 6555 W. Overland Road. At 1,235 square feet, Rizzo is a modest space that would seem to be well-positioned for takeout business.

Either way, if you’re a fan of shawarma and French fries? Or falafel and hummus?

Rizzo’s progress is something to follow.
