A ‘community favorite,’ this Boise restaurant closed after 5 years. Now it opened in Kuna
Dining out just got cheesier in Kuna.
Offering signature full-flavored dishes, Mad Mac opened a restaurant last week at 726 E. Avalon St. The local macaroni-and-cheese concept closed its Boise location permanently last winter.
Mad Mac’s rich menu is best enjoyed on cheat days. Entrees include options such as Buffalo Chicken Mac (chicken thighs in cayenne pepper sauce over Mad Mac’s classic mac ‘n’ cheese with ranch dressing) and Philly Cheesesteak Mac (thinly sliced steak with sauteed peppers and onions over mac ‘n’ cheese).
When Mad Mac opened its original restaurant in late 2017 at the Boise Spectrum, it was unique to the Treasure Valley: a restaurant dedicated to the popular comfort food. Mad Mac’s brick-and-mortar destination was an expansion of its food truck, which started rolling in early 2016.
Short on employees, the restaurant shuttered in 2021 before eventually returning to action. But the rebirth was short-lived. And Idahoans were bummed at the closure. “What the hell. This sucks,” one commenter wrote on Facebook. “At least the food truck is still going to be here. This is a staple and a community favorite.”
But today? In Kuna? Optimism fills the air. “Your support means the world to us!” Mad Mac proclaimed on Facebook as it announced the restaurant.
The new eatery is operating under limited hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Mad Mac’s food truck has been rolling this fall, too, and posting schedules on social media.
