After a rent hike doomed one Boise restaurant, another took over. Now it’s closed, too

When Meraki Greek Street Food closed in downtown Boise last year, its owners blamed a conflict over a rent hike.

But the restaurant space didn’t stay dark for long.

Fledgling local brand Clucks Nashville Hot Chicken quickly took over at 345 S. 8th St. in the BoDo district. Nestled between Five Guys and P.F. Chang’s, Clucks installed an eye-catching sign and looked promising. Selling chicken sandwiches in a relatively high-profile location, the restaurant space even has a small outdoor patio.

But now Clucks is closed, too.

Despite a sign on the door indicating that the closure is temporary, it’s permanent, according to a representative from real estate company Colliers International Idaho.

The 2,274-square-foot space is available for lease, he said via email. A message to a Clucks partner was not immediately returned.

In the meantime, Clucks’ other restaurant — at 3223 E. Louise Drive in Meridian — remains open.

So what comes next for the vacant BoDo spot? That remains to be seen. Clearly, the Warehouse Food Hall across the street has altered the area’s dynamic when it comes to dining competition.

Five Guys and P.F. Chang’s have enjoyed success in their respective spots for many years. Serving Asian fusion cuisine, P.F. Chang’s has anchored BoDo for 18 years. Five Guys began selling its popular hamburgers there in 2011.
