New year, new plans again for The Flats 16.

The restaurant and event center at 3705 Idaho 16 in Eagle has shuttered after changing hands for the second time in less than two years.

New owners Victor and Carrie Kranz, who live in Eagle, hope to reopen the venue in March. Their goal is to give it “a nice face-lift,” the Kranzes said in an email.

The plan? Return to action with a changed name, a revamped restaurant menu and a newly added boutique. “We will be on-site owners to ensure customers greatest satisfaction,” they explained.

The business sale closed Dec. 30, the Kranzes said. “We have entered into a purchase and sale agreement on both the business and real estate which includes 5 acres.”

A longtime site for weddings, outdoor concerts and other events, the property has operated under various names over the years. Before it became The Flats 16, it was home to now-defunct Crooked Fence Brewing Co.

In 2021, The Flats 16 was taken over by Spokane developers. One of the partners told the Statesman that they planned to add a brewery — Brick West Brewing Co. — and a winery on the premises.

That beery vision never materialized. But The Flats 16 has continued to enjoy a fan base — along with curious, hopeful onlookers.

That much was made clear by online comments after The Flats 16 announced its temporary closure and ownership change on Facebook.

“It’s such a great venue,” wrote one commenter. “I hope you’ll consider having a lot of live music outside.”

“May this next owner have all the right stuff to take it to an exciting level,” another said.

“It’s such a great location,” added one more, “and with a brighter decor inside and better decor outside it could really be a hit!”
