‘Noooooooo!’: After 4 ‘glorious’ years, this family-owned Boise restaurant has closed
Fans of Mexican dining in Southeast Boise are having an “¡Ay, caramba!” moment.
Jalapeño’s Bar & Grill, 1055 S. Broadway Ave., has closed. “After four years, we’re ready to focus on our families and our two other locations,” a message from owners Irma Valdivia and Leticia McLaughlin said Wednesday on Facebook. “Simply put, we can’t be in two places at once.”
Describing their Broadway run as “glorious,” the sisters encouraged customers to visit the other Jalapeño’s restaurants, which have lengthy histories. Jalapeño’s debuted in Nampa in 2006 at 1921 Caldwell Blvd. before expanding into Boise three years later at 8799 W. Franklin Road.
Facebook commenters reacted to the Broadway store’s demise with gratitude and sadness.
“Nooooooooooo!!! That’s our place!!” one lamented.
“BRB while I cry,” wrote another. “Thank you guys for many great memories and experiences.”
Family-owned and family-friendly, Jalapeño’s restaurants serve a wide variety of Mexican cuisine ranging from tacos, burritos and enchiladas to combination plates, steaks and a Speedy Lunch.
“We make everything from scratch,” the local chain promises on its website, “from the guacamole to the salad dressings, the salsas to the desserts. We cook all of our food using generations-old family recipes, premium ingredients and warm smiles.”
Jalapeño’s also is known for its margaritas and other tequila cocktails.
“We were born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and we definitely have that twist in our menu,” Irma told the Idaho Statesman in 2018. “It’s a beautiful state, and I take trips there to learn more about their tequila.”
Longtime Boiseans will be curious about the future of the Broadway building, which was the largest Jalapeño’s location.
Previously, it housed the Tap and Cask sports pub. Before that, it was home to The Tilted Kilt, a Celtic-themed “breastaurant.”
Boise natives will still remember the space, in simpler times, as the longtime home of Murphy’s Seafood and Steakhouse.
