$1 tacos, $2 beers, $4 shots? Popular Hyde Park restaurant, bar expands to downtown Boise

If you like the sound of $2 cans of Tecate beer every day, and $1 tacos on Tuesdays and Thursdays, prepare to head downtown.

Parrilla Grill & Cantina, a Hyde Park institution for the past 22 years, just took its tasty, affordable specials 5 minutes east.

The popular North End hangout has opened a second location on the corner of 5th and Idaho streets. The new Parrilla took over a short-lived Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe space in the Gibson building.

Parrilla Grill is known for a menu of Tex-Mex fusion food, cheap Tecate beers, a full bar (with $4 Piedra Azul tequila on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and sports on TVs.

The bar area isn’t as big downtown. Nor is the patio.

But the vibe? Pure Parrilla. It’s clean, open and inviting — with a roll-up garage door leading from the patio into the cantina.

The new Parrilla has the same concept as the Hyde Park flagship store, with an order-at-the counter, customizable food arsenal of wraps, tacos, burritos and salads. Along with the $1 tacos and $4 tequila deals, other daily specials are planned.

The kitchen opens at 7 a.m. every day, initially pumping out breakfast burritos and tacos, and stays open until 10 p.m. The bar opens at 10 a.m. daily and remains open until closing time, which might stretch as late as midnight.

Parrilla’s first Boise location opened at 477 N. Milwaukee St. in 1999. In 2000, it moved to its Hyde Park spot.
