New brewery restaurant to be largest in Boise — with a 9-hole putting course. Here’s when
First, the heartbreaking news: Northwest Boise residents will not be quaffing cold pints of Dagger Falls IPA on the outdoor patio of a newly opened Sockeye Alehouse this summer. Originally planned for spring, the delayed restaurant and bar is still months — seasons — away from its projected debut.
Now the good news: The place is sounding cooler by the minute.
A second location for Sockeye Brewing, 12542 W. Fairview Ave., Sockeye Alehouse will take over the former 36th Street Garden Center & Bistro at 36th Street and Hill Road. At more than 12,000 square feet of food-and-drink space, Sockeye Alehouse will be the largest brewery-operated restaurant in the Treasure Valley.
Sockeye does not plan to brew beer there. But the Collister neighborhood destination will include a full-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining areas. But here’s something that we haven’t heard before: It also will feature a golf-themed bar with a year-round putting course.
“We’ve worked with the award-winning design company PuttTek to design and engineer a nine-hole, indoor putting course that will wow our customers,” Tyson Cardon, director of marketing, explained in a news release. “It’s definitely not your average ‘putt-putt’ or mini golf course. The greens are engineered in a way that keeps the true golfer in mind while remaining fun and family-friendly.”
Can you say, “Beers, burgers and putts at Sockeye after playing a round at nearby Quail Hollow Golf Course”?
Demolition has begun on the building’s interior, according to the news release. Extensive construction, including a significant kitchen build-out, is scheduled to start in July. The project is expected to wrap up this fall.
“Tentative opening date will be in the month of November,” Cardon explained in an email. “As construction nears completion and things become a little more clear, we will set that date.
“Good things are worth the wait,” he added in the news release, “and we believe Sockeye Alehouse is no exception. We can’t wait to share what’s in store and have a beer with everyone to celebrate!”
Want to keep an eye on the progress? You can do so, according to the release, “by attending any one of Sockeye’s ‘pop ups,’ visiting the weekly 36th Street Sunday Market or following Sockeye Alehouse on Facebook and visiting sockeyebrew.com.”
Founded in 1996, Sockeye is one of Idaho’s largest breweries. Dagger Falls IPA — part of a large arsenal of beers and Simply Idaho hard seltzers — is the best-selling Idaho-made craft beer in the state, according to the release. Sockeye Alehouse will offer more than two-dozen taps, plus sell wine, hard seltzer and canned cocktails. (A liquor license is not part of the plan.)
Sockeye’s original location, a grill and brewery at 3019 N. Cole Road, closed in 2019. Its flagship brewery — a 12,000-square-foot building including a 5,000-square-foot restaurant — opened in 2012 on Fairview Avenue.
