On 4/20, Boise restaurants will offer free munchies, Liquid Marijuana, ‘blazed’ food
Cannabis might not be legal in Idaho, but there’s no denying how far it’s drifted into the mainstream.
Nationwide, chain restaurants will celebrate April 20 — aka the pot holiday 4/20 — with wink-and-a-nod promotions. They range from special, weed-friendly menu items to flat-out stoner heaven: free munchies.
In the Boise area, here are some of the participating joints.
▪ Wingstop doesn’t even try to disguise its love for the cannabis crowd. “Let’s be blunt,” a press release says. “Wingstop knows their wings are the ultimate munchies and that 4/20 is a sacred holiday for their guests. So, in celebration of the most chill day of the year, the wing joint is honoring their cannabis-loving fans with a limited-edition, 4/20-inspired flavor called Blazed & Glazed, available starting on April 18.”
Blazed & Glazed wings will “accentuate any buzz with smoky, herbal flavors. ... Crafted with a blend of hemp seeds, terpenes, strawberry and cayenne pepper, the new flavor is designed to taste like 4/20.”
Don’t worry, Idaho: As Wingstop is careful to explain, “the flavor won’t actually get you high.”
Blazed & Glazed wings are available now through Friday, or while supplies last. Wingstop has Treasure Valley locations at 1575 N. Milwaukee St. in Boise and at 3340 N. Eagle Road in Meridian.
▪ Twin Peaks, 7751 W. Spectrum St., is calling it National Munchies Day. The sports “breastaurant” is offering customers a “free munchie on the house”: chips and queso, fried pickles or mozzarella cheese bites.
“Twin Peaks is also offering drink specials on their Liquid Marijuana shots and cocktails,” according to a press release. “Guests can enjoy a Liquid Marijuana shot for just $4 or the Liquid Marijuana cocktail for $6.”
Of course, there’s no actual dope in those green drinks. Liquid Marijuana contains Captain Morgan and Malibu rums, melon liqueur, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice and sweet and sour.
▪ Jimmy John’s is launching a special website for one day — gethighwithjimmyjohns.com. The ubiquitous sandwich chain will offer a sliding-scale discount of up to 20% depending on “how high you are,” Thrillist reports. It’s not about being baked like Jimmy John’s bread, though. The “high” is your elevation, which will be determined when you scan a QR code at the website with your phone’s camera.
“Jimmy John’s also is doing a big sandwich giveaway for the 2,742 residents of Leadville, Colorado — the highest city in the United States,” according to Chew Boom.
▪ Jack in the Box, which has sold Munchie Meals for years, will unveil a $4.20-priced Pineapple Express shake on 4/20, named after the 2008 stoner-comedy movie.
And just in time for Arbor Day later this month? The chain says it will donate a buck toward planting a tree for every Pineapple Express shake sold. “Trees,” of course, being slang for marijuana.
Either way, “Pineapple Express” star Seth Rogen is not impressed with the shake. “This has nothing to do with the movie ...,” Rogen clarified on Twitter. “We had nothing to do with this and weren’t asked if we wanted our film associated with this. And obviously, if we did a tie-in, it would have to be to promote those bizarre ****ing diarrhea-inducing taco things they sell.”
