More top 10 rock songs than Foo Fighters or Aerosmith? This band’s coming, Boise

Rockers, rejoice! Headbanging will ensue later this year at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater in Nampa.

Godsmack will headline an outdoor festival on Saturday, Sept. 26, with openers Stone Temple Pilots and Dorothy. It’s part of Godsmack’s “The Rise of Rock World Tour,” but in the Boise area, it’s known as the annual X-Fest.

“Godsmack has more Top 10 rock songs than Foo Fighters or their hometown heroes, Aerosmith,” the band’s official bio brags. Really? While it’s unclear what chart or charts this refers to — Godsmack has had exactly zero top 10 songs on the mainstream Billboard Hot 100, while Aerosmith has had eight — even casual fans undoubtedly will know much of the setlist.

“Stretching back to their four-times platinum self-titled debut, initially recorded in 1996 for $2,500, the veteran band’s catalog of hits is enough to fill a marathon set without running out,” the bio continues. “Songs like ‘I Stand Alone,’ ‘Awake’ and ‘Voodoo’ are certified anthems deeply encoded into hard rock’s DNA.”

Like Godsmack, Stone Temple Pilots is a force of melodic rock with strong roots in the 1990s. However, the group has been without its original lead singer, Scott Weiland, for a decade. He died of an accidental drug overdose in 2015. STP’s hits include “Plush” and “Interstate Love Song.”

Dorothy is a relative newcomer compared to Godsmack and STP. Fronted by singer and songwriter Dorothy Martin, the group formed in 2014.

Tickets to the 7 p.m. concert become available to the general public starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, for $54 to $147 through fordidahocenter.com. Presales begin Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Godsmack has sold more than 20 million records worldwide, according to a press release.
