‘Driven by Idaho law,’ this brewery’s Meridian taproom will close soon

Pour one out for the homies, Boise beer drinkers.

The original Meridian taproom for Loose Screw Beer Co. is screw — er, hosed.

The locally owned pub at 1511 W. McMillan Road will close after a final day on Jan. 4, 2026. Loose Screw’s nearly 10,000-square-foot brewery and taproom facility in downtown Meridian — at the corner of Main Street and Carlton Avenue — will remain open.

Why shutter the McMillan spot?

“This decision was strictly strategic and driven by Idaho law,” Loose Screw wrote on social media, “which limits breweries to two taprooms, one of which must be attached to the production facility. It was not due to a lack of sales or support. The McMillan community has been incredible, and we are grateful for the loyalty, energy, and memories created in this space.

“We’re actively exploring our next taproom location. When the time comes, you can expect an experience similar to our downtown Meridian brewery — thoughtfully designed, community focused, and elevated.

“To our McMillan regulars, don’t worry. An experienced operator will be stepping into the space, and they plan to keep Loose Screw beer on draft. More details coming soon.”

In the meantime, a farewell party is planned for Saturday, Dec. 27, starting at 5 p.m. with food from il Sugo Italian Kitchen.

Launched in Garden City in 2020, Loose Screw expanded to the 2,200-square-foot McMillan location in 2021, and then opened the flagship downtown Meridian operation in 2024.
