A landmark music venue for decades, this Garden City bar has closed

A landmark bar and music venue in Garden City has pulled the plug.

Heritage Social Club, 5467 N. Glenwood St., closed after a final day Sunday.

Co-owner Cody Cuccia and his business partner took over the space about 2 1/2 years ago when it was called Ironwood Social, he said. But they recently sold their liquor license and decided not to renew the lease.

Cuccia, who has 2- and 5-year-old children, wants to spend more time with them, he said.

“I kind of gave it my shot and really enjoyed it,” Cuccia said, “but just didn’t really want to sign another five-year lease with where I’m at in my life right now.”

The space is on track to reopen as a different concept, Cuccia said. But he declined to share additional details.

“I know that we’re pulling out all of our gear and sound system and stuff like that,” he said, “so I don’t think it will be a concert venue anymore.”

In addition to showcasing local Boise bands and touring acts, Heritage Social Club featured an array of pinball machines and a kitchen that served pub food.

For decades in the prior century, the space was known as Shorty‘s Country & Western Saloon. Eventually, in the early 2000s, it became the Silver Spur. Then it reverted to Shorty’s again. It became the short-lived Eclypse before being reborn as Ironwood, and finally, Heritage Social Club in 2023.
