Star of ‘Caddyshack’ and ‘Stripes’ is coming to Boise to rock, host ‘big party’
Over the years, a surprising number of Hollywood actors have graced stages in the Boise area to moonlight as musicians — with unsurprisingly varied results.
Bruce Willis. Dennis Quaid. Billy Bob Thornton. Steven Seagal. (Yes, really!) Jared Leto. Jada Pinkett Smith. The list goes on.
Now it’s Bill Murray’s turn.
The comedy legend and Academy Award-nominated movie star — known for classic roles in films ranging from “Stripes,” “Caddyshack” and “Ghostbusters” to “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Lost in Translation” — is coming to the Treasure Valley to sing.
Bill Murray and His Blood Brothers will perform Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Revolution Concert House in Garden City. It’s part of a co-headlining show with Big Head Todd and The Monsters.
General-admission tickets go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday for $39.50 at Ticketmaster. (Presales start Thursday; sign up for the code at cttouringid.com.) There also will be 100 VIP tickets available for the upstairs area for $79.50.
Murray is a “huge fan” of Big Head Todd, explained Creston Thornton, owner of the Revolution Center and president of promoter Live Nation’s mountain region. “The guys have all become friends .... and they are just doing a handful of dates together.”
Although universally known as an actor, Murray, 74, is gifted with vocal chops that might catch concertgoers off-guard. He’s no stranger to hitting notes. “Saturday Night Live” fans might remember him as Nick the Lounge Singer. (Anyone up for some “Star Wars”?)
Murray’s backing band, His Blood Brothers, features musicians including formidable blues-rock singers-guitarists Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia. The group performs classic rock covers — with a dash of Murray’s between-song charisma, naturally.
At the Idaho show, Murray’s and Big Head Todd’s bands each will perform full sets, followed by a jam session at the end “with everyone,” Thornton said. “It’s going to be a big party.”
