Free food, coffee: Iconic Boise doughnut shop goes ‘big’ at new Nampa location

With cranes dotting the skyline and modern buildings materializing everywhere, one uniquely sweet reminder of a simpler Boise remains downtown.

DK Donuts.

A State Street staple since the prior century, the iconic doughnut shop is modest yet dependable — “a Boise gem,” one Yelp reviewer wrote recently.

Now Nampa will get a taste. Unveiling a menu nearly twice as large — in a roomier building that seats around 50 — owner Angkearot Long has one descriptive word for his Canyon County expansion: “Big,” he said by phone.

Celebrating its grand opening April 28-30 at 200 12th Ave. South, DK Donuts in Nampa will give away a free regular doughnut and small hot coffee “for every customer if they want,” Long said — all three days.

A corner shop not far from the Nampa Public Library, DK Donuts will offer extended hours, too: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

The menu will reflect those hours, offering more than doughnuts. DK in Nampa also will sell breakfast sandwiches, a variety of baked goods, boba, smoothies, mild tea and more, Long said.

But do not forget to order the beloved DK bacon maple bar.

It’s all welcome news for DK fans, who got a fright last year when the Boise shop announced it would close in late October. The crisis soon was averted after Long signed a new lease.

Now DK Donuts customers should be smiling for years — in two Treasure Valley cities.
