This band packed Boise’s Outlaw Field in 2016. It’s returning — to larger Idaho Center
Classic rock fans have a hot new date on their summer concert calendar.
The Steve Miller Band has been booked to perform at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 9. Tickets to the outdoor show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through fordidahocenter.com. Prices range from $49.50 for general-admission lawn to $149.50 for front-row seats. Special guests are slated to open but haven’t been named yet. Doors will open at 7 p.m., music starts at 8.
Known for 1970s and 1980s radio staples such as “The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Abracadabra,” the Steve Miller Band last performed in the Boise area in 2016. The concert came within a few hundred fans of selling out 4,000-capacity Outlaw Field at the Idaho Botanical Garden, according to the promoter. Earlier that same year, frontman Steve Miller was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The group also was scheduled to perform at Outlaw Field in 2020, but the concert — like so many others that year — wound up canceled.
Many longtime Idahoans think of Miller as a fellow — or at least part-time — Gem Stater. In 2017, Miller made headlines by listing his massive Ketchum compound for $16 million.
Previously announced shows at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater in Nampa this summer include Matchbox 20 on June 4, Barenaked Ladies on June 15, Hank Williams Jr. on July 14, Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on July 28, Parker McCollum on July 29, Luke Bryan on Aug. 5, Michael Franti on Aug. 12 and Young the Giant and Milky Chance on Aug. 14.
Outlaw Field announces first show
Outlaw Field has made its first concert announcement of the 2023 season — and, like Steve Miller, it’s classic-rock royalty.
Chicago will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. Tickets to Garden members go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ticketmaster for $65.50. Tickets to the general public become available starting at 10 a.m. Friday for $70.50.
Formed in 1967, the horn-powered outfit is still popular on the summer circuit. Chicago will unleash a jazzy pop-rock setlist packed with hits: “25 or 6 to 4,” “Saturday in the Park,” “Colour My World,” “If You Leave Me Now” — the list goes on.
Chicago performed for a whopping 11,400 concertgoers in 2021 at the Western Idaho Fair, according to organizers. (Concerts were free with paid fair admission.)
