While others in Boise close, two new restaurants will open today. Together.

Update March 19: Boise Fry Co. and Waffle Me Up locations have closed their seated areas.

As coronavirus precautions encourage Americans to hunker down at home, some Idaho restaurants are closing temporarily.

Not Boise Fry Co. and Waffle Me Up.

“We’re going for it,” Boise Fry Co. marketing manager Andrew Hanebutt said Monday.

The popular eateries, which already share space at 204 N. Capitol Boulevard in downtown Boise, opened another two-in-one destination Wednesday morning. The new restaurants are at Eagle Island Marketplace — serving Eagle and Meridian residents at 1240 W. Chinden Blvd, the corner of Chinden and Linder Road.

For now, customers will be allowed to dine inside the 2,500-square-foot space. Boise Fry Co. is being vigilant about preventing COVID-19 spread, Hanebutt said. “We’ve already been implementing new sanitization procedures well before this hit the United States,” he said. “We’re making sure to do our due diligence to protect our community and ourselves.”

Still, the situation could change quickly. Other states have suspended on-premise restaurant service.

Anticipating a similar scenario, Boise Fry Co. will begin offering Uber Eats delivery service this week at all locations. Waffle Me Up already provides delivery service through Uber Eats and DoorDash. Both restaurants also offer takeout food. Waffle Me Up even sells frozen waffles.

Opening at 7 a.m. daily, Waffle Me Up will serve until 9 p.m. The restaurant’s “hot-off-the-iron,” Liege-style waffles come in varieties such as the signature Bob Deluxe ($9), which includes melted havarti cheese, market fried egg, bacon, syrup and basil. You can add toppings to waffles ranging from chocolate sauce and sprinkles to peanut butter and bananas. Originally a mobile vendor, Waffle Me Up opened its brick-and-mortar space in 2016.

Founded in 2009, Boise Fry Co. has several Treasure Valley locations. Hamburgers come in proteins including beef, bison, turkey, beef/mushroom and vegan. But the Idaho chain’s motto is “burgers on the side.” The fries are made from six potato varieties and cut in five styles: shoestring, regular, homestyle, curly and po’ boy. Feel like splurging? Grab an order of Bourgeois Fries ($6 small/$9 large), which are fried in duck fat and garnished with truffle salt.

Boise Fry Co. is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
