Boise restaurants, bars close, lay off staff. Many pivot to delivery, to-go menus

Editor’s note: Here is a more updated list of Treasure Valley restaurants serving delivery and to-go food.

Restaurants and bars in the Boise area are being rocked by the coronavirus pandemic.

Downtown drinking destinations such as Tom Grainey’s, The Balcony Club and Neurolux have closed until further notice.

The well-known Tavern restaurant locations — Tavern at Bown Crossing and Owyhee Tavern in Boise, and Tavern at Eagle Island in Eagle — have closed for now.

Bittercreek Alehouse, Red Feather Lounge and Diablo & Sons have dropped dine-in service for now and temporarily laid off staff. Red Feather and Diablo are closed until further notice. Bittercreek is still offering a to-go menu with family-style portions.

Whether it’s special takeout meals, free delivery or even shuttering temporarily, here are ways local eateries and watering holes are adapting and coping.

Things are changing quickly. Please check ahead with establishments for the latest information, or go here for a newer list of restaurants doing take-out or delivery.

Restaurants

208 Pho & Vegan, 812 W. Fort St., has closed temporarily. Owner An Nguyen said he plans to reopen March 25 — but for delivery orders only, until the coronavirus threat passes. “We want to lower the risks and to survive through the COVID-19 situation we have,” he said. “We still want to serve my customers by delivery to their house or office.”

Nguyen said he plans to use his staff to make the deliveries, which will not cost extra.

ā café, 109 S. 10th St., has temporarily closed, but posted on Facebook that it would be sharing a menu soon for Supper Club take-out or delivery dinners next week.

Addie’s, 1221 W. Boise Ave., is open, but also with delivery and curbside pickup.

A Lively Chef Catering, 200 E. 37th St. in Garden City, is offering refrigerated meals that can be reheated. Delivery is to Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Nampa and Kuna.

Anderson Reserve butchery and restaurant in Sweet is now selling a “Quarantine Butcher Box” full of local meats that will be hand-delivered to customers in the Treasure Valley and neighboring towns by the family that owns the company. “This is a great way to send some food that may be difficult to find these days to a friend, family member, or elderly person in need,” according to a press release. The box, which costs $100, includes two 8-ounce prime dry-aged New York strip steaks, 2 pounds of apple-wood-smoked bacon, 5 pounds of all-natural ground chuck, 2 pounds of all-natural ground chuck patties and six 6-ounce free-range boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Call (208) 352-6166 to order.

A’Tavola, 1515 W. Grove St., is closed but opens again March 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. selling only take-away items. “There will be individual meals, as well as family-size meals available for take-away,” the cafe wrote in a message to customers.

“After this Saturday,” A’Tavola added, “we will be closed for the remainder of the month. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and we plan to reopen on Wednesday, April 1, if it is then deemed safe for our staff and community.”

Bar Gernika, 202 S. Capitol Blvd., has closed until further notice.

Bardenay, 610 W. Grove St. in downtown Boise and 155 E. Riverside Drive in Eagle, and Coyne’s, 676 E. Riverside Drive in Eagle, are closed until further notice. An employee may have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a neighboring state. Test results are pending.

BBQ4Life, 930 S. Vista Ave., is now offering curbside service for takeout orders. Call in orders at (208) 639-0568.

Bier:30, 3072 S. Bown Way, has closed until further notice.

Bittercreek Alehouse is offering a special menu of food to go. “Just call the restaurant of your choice,” Bittercreek posted on its Facebook page. “... You can expect to see a new, single to-go menu from all of our restaurants that is simplified, featuring family-style meals that are either fully prepared or cooked at home.” Dine-in service is closed.

Black Bear Diner, 7530 W. State St. and 1731 S. Entertainment Ave., is offering its home-style comfort food — breakfast, lunch and dinner, including all day breakfast and kids’ meals — for curbside pick-up or delivery.

Boise Fry Company planned to start offering delivery this week from all its locations through Uber Eats.

Camel’s Crossing, 1304 W. Alturas St., has closed temporarily.

Capitol Cellars, 110 S. 5th St., is open and operating during its normal hours with breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menus. In addition to offering dining in, the restaurant has all food available for curbside takeout or to-go orders.

Diablo & Sons, 246 N. 8th St., is closed until further notice.

Eureka!, 800 W. Idaho St., offers takeout and delivery options, and is extending its team member dining discount so that every employee has a free meal at this time. Friends and family of employees receive a 50 percent discount.

Golden Corral, 8460 W. Emerald St., is still offering dine-in service but is also doing in-store takeout and orders to-go including curbside pickup.

Guru Donuts, 928 W. Main St., has launched a new delivery service to supplement dine-in and takeout options. Place an order online, and at checkout select “Delivery.” The free service is available in the Boise area, including Garden City, with Meridian and Eagle possibly to be added. For every online order, $1 will be donated to The Idaho Foodbank.

Food from Toasted restaurant next door also is available through Guru Donuts’ online ordering.

“Our community, customers and Guru team are our focus, and we hope to bring joy to Boiseans’ day during this time,” co-owner Krystle McLaughlin said in an email. “We are all uncertain what the next weeks/month will bring, and we hope donut delivery could keep our team members employed.”

Janjou Pâtisserie, 1754 W. State St., has closed its bakery and cafe to sit-down customers and will do pick-up and to-go orders only starting Wednesday. No more than three customers are allowed in the store simultaneously.

Madre taqueria, 1034 S. La Pointe St., has closed its dining room but is offering family meals for curbside pickup or delivery from 4 to 6 p.m. until further notice.

The Matador, 215 N. 8th St. in downtown Boise, wants customers to know that it offers online ordering from its entire menu for both takeout and delivery at its website.

The Modern Hotel and Bar, 1314 W. Grove St., and Txikiteo, 175 N. 14th St., issued a joint announcement that they have undergone temporary closures: “We believe this is the most responsible action to take in the face of this new and growing public health crisis.”

Neckar Coffee, 117 S. 10th St., has closed until further notice.

Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom at Boise Towne Square mall has temporarily closed.

Red Feather Lounge, 246 N. 8th St., is closed until further notice.

Richard’s, 500 Capitol Blvd., is now selling takeout food through its online menu.

Roghani’s Restaurant (formerly Le Coq d’Or). 176 S. Rosebud Lane at Chateau des Fleurs in Eagle, has closed temporarily until further notice.

Sockeye Brewing, 12542 W. Fairview Ave., is now offering beer and food delivery, along with curbside pickup for to-go orders. For orders under $20, there’s a $5 delivery charge.

St. Lawrence Gridiron, 705 W. Bannock St., recently began offering 30 percent off to-go orders.

Taco John’s, 2122 North Cassia St. in Nampa, has ended dine-in service but is doing in-store takeout and drive-thru orders.

Tango’s Subs and Empanadas, 701 N. Orchard St. in Boise, is now taking phone orders for takeout if customers don’t want to walk in and order: (208) 322-3090.

Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe, which opened this month at 505 W. Idaho St. in Boise, has shuttered temporarily to reduce its viral footprint, according to franchise owner Shawn Tierney. All operations, including in-house dining, will now be at the Eagle location at 1592 E Riverside Drive. That restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily until further notice.

“We will be based solely out of Eagle at this time for delivery to Eagle and Boise, curbside pickup and catering,” Tierney said in an email.

“Our focus is providing fresh and healthy meals that are available via phone or online ordering for pick-up and delivery to our beloved community,” Taziki’s wrote in a message to customers. “Our catering services are available through in-house calls or EzCater.”

Bars

The Balcony Club, 150 N. 8th St., has closed until further notice.

Boise Brewing, 521 W. Broad St., launched a local delivery and pickup service for its beer this week. Delivery is $8 and “restricted to Boise Brewing surrounding zip codes,” the brewery posted on its website, “while curbside pickup is available for everyone who can make it to the brewery.”

Capitol Bar, 6100 W. State St., has closed its kitchen and removed bar-top seating — both until further notice. Hours remain the same.

Edge Brewing Co., 525 N. Steelhead Way, started offering beer delivery March 18. Minimum one case per delivery: (208) 995-2979.

Hooligans Pub, 10704 W. Overland Road, has new hours — noon to 9 p.m. daily — and is now selling takeout food.

Neurolux, 111 N. 11th St., has closed until further notice.

Payette Brewing Co., 733 S. Pioneer St., has launched an online “Buy Your Pal a Pint” program. The idea is to jump on the internet and virtually send a beer to a friend, who can enjoy it in the taproom at a later date — like when the pandemic is over. A pint costs $5, and you can order multiple pints. Payette’s taproom remains open, and to-go beer continues to be sold. Payette is selling curbside six packs to-go from 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot. Home delivery of beer starts March 19.

Pengilly’s Saloon, 513 W. Main St., has closed until further notice.

The Pocket, 1487 N. Curtis Road, has closed until further notice.

The Shed, 1010 S. LaPointe St., has closed until further notice.

The Silly Birch, 507 W. Main St., has closed until further notice.

Tom Grainey’s, 109 S. 6th St, has closed until further notice.

Western Collective brewery, 111 W. 33rd St. in Garden City, is now offering curbside pickup and delivery options for beer and other alcoholic beverages. Delivery is free with a four-item minimum.

Whiskey Bar, 509 W. Main St., has closed until further notice.
