Last-minute TD decides battle of 4A top teams, major upset avoided in 5A pod opener
Johnson 4 run Skyview running back Tyler Crowe ran 6 yards untouched up the middle for the game-winning touchdown with 60 seconds left Friday as the No. 1-ranked Hawks edged No. 3-ranked Emmett 21-20.
Emmett mounted one last push on its home field, but Skyview (5-0, 3-0 4A SIC) hung on as Ramiro Alvizo’s 43-yard field goal attempt fell short with 2 seconds left.
The Hawks trailed 13-7 at halftime but forced and recovered three Emmett (3-2, 1-2) fumbles in the second half. Skyview quarterback Wyatt Storer completed 18 of 32 passes for 257 yards and a pair of TDs, including a 7-yard score that DeMonte Horton hauled in with a diving catch in the back of the end zone.
Emmett’s Michael Walker pounded the Skyview defense, racking up 247 yards and two TDs on 25 carries. The Huskies ran for 360 yards, averaging 7.1 yards a carry.
An exciting finish was marred when Emmett star receiver/defensive back DJ Crump was carted off the field in an ambulance after a tackle along the Skyview sideline. An update on his status was not available at press time.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 39, TIMBERLINE 32
Rocky Mountain racked up 523 yards of offense but had to hold off an upset effort from Timberline.
Rocky Mountain QB Will McMullin finished 17 for 23 for 302 yards and four TDs to four different receivers. Carter Kuehl added 107 yards on 12 carries for the Grizzlies (4-1, 1-0).
Timberline (2-3, 0-1) cut the deficit to three at the end of the third quarter when Ed Osterberger caught the second of his two TD passes. He also ran for 143 yards and another TD, finishing with 272 total yards.
CAPITAL 45, COLUMBIA 0
The Eagles (3-1, 1-0) shut out and triggered the mercy rule against Columbia for the second year in a row.
Senior receiver Carter Johnson scored four touchdowns — three receiving and one rushing — and quarterback Ryan Hibbs went 19 of 25 passing for 300 yards and four TDs without an interception.
Hibbs threw three of his touchdown passes in the first quarter as Capital got out to a 24-0 lead.
MERIDIAN 34, NAMPA 14
Warriors quarterback Nate Weddle threw for a pair of touchdowns and added another score on the ground as the Warriors (2-3, 1-0) snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Knights’ defense held Vallivue to 187 total yards and recorded a safety to lead Bishop Kelly to its ninth straight win over the Falcons.

Tevin Sio led Caldwell (0-5, 0-3) with 72 yards on 17 carries.
RIDGEVUE 45, MOUNTAIN HOME 25
Ridgevue erupted with 35 unanswered points behind three Colton Crawford rushing touchdowns and 111 yards on the ground from Michael Sondermann.

The Trojans forced four turnovers and held Weiser to 187 total yards to open the 3A SRV schedule with a rout.

The Chargers trailed by two possessions at halftime but answered with two Obadadiyah Gee scores of 50-plus yards for the win. Gee finished with 229 all-purpose yards for Cole Valley, while Noah Ormsby stood out for the Vandals with two interceptions.
MELBA 23, MARSING 6
Scott Martinez posted game-highs with 74 rushing yards and two scores for the Mustangs, teaming with Justin Trapper’s 71 yards receiving.
The Huskies threatened in the third quarter before Kobe Phillips and Martinez each ran for a fourth-quarter TD in the 2A WIC opener for both teams.

Centennial pulled within 28-21 with 6:17 to play on a 1-yard run from quarterback Dayne Koch, but the Lions (3-2, 1-0) closed the door thanks to Standlee’s 17-yard TD strike to Chase Nett with 2:18 on the clock.
Victor Ngalamulume added two rushing touchdowns for the Patriots (2-3, 0-1).
