Decisive two-point play, five-touchdown night highlight Week 2 of high school football
Rex Irby intercepted Borah High’s go-ahead, two-point conversion pass with 21 seconds remaining, and Bishop Kelly recovered the onside kick to sneak away with a 27-26 win Friday night at Dona Larsen Park.
The Knights jumped out to a 21-0 lead, getting 21- and 37-yard touchdown receptions from Logan Hibbs in the first quarter. Khalil Forehand broke free for a 45-yard TD run in the second quarter.
Borah nearly stole the win in the final minute as Ellis Magnuson brought down a 20-yard TD pass from Jake Standlee. Magnuson finished with 13 catches for 155 yards, and Standlee went 26-for-47 for 317 yards and a pair of scores.

Skyview 27, Meridian 21
The Hawks trailed 21-7 midway through the second quarter before scoring the final 20 points of the contest, capped by a tiebreaking 2-yard touchdown run by Daniel Lopez early in the fourth quarter.
Skyview outgained the Warriors 533-139 and held the Meridian rushing attack to just 21 yards on 13 carries (1.6 yards per carry).
Javen Woodall had a 96-yard kickoff return for Meridan just before halftime. Tyler Crowe dominated on the ground for Skyview with 156 yards and two scores to team with DeMonte Horton’s 141 yards on nine receptions.
Eagle 19, Highland 7
Eagle held Highland to a single touchdown in the third quarter as it won a nonconference matchup between perennial playoff contenders.
Karl Thomas opened the scoring for the Mustangs on a 1-yard run in the second quarter, Nick Williams caught a 5-yard TD pass from Devan Bridgewater and Grant Horlocher finished off the road win with a 70-yard fumble return.
Mountain View 38, Hunter (Utah) 34
Luke Adams caught a 19-yard touchdown pass with 1:56 remaining to help the defending state champions take down Hunter (Utah) in a back-and-forth battle. No further information was available at press time.
Canyon Ridge 14, Ridgevue 7
Ridgevue held Canyon Ridge to just 50 total yards in the first half but couldn’t hold on for the nonconference win. Johnny Eastman hit Derek Clark with a 13-yard TD with about 4 minutes to play to lift the Riverhawks.
Ridgevue was led by running back Michael Sondermann, who scored the Warhawks’ only TD in the second quarter on a 1-yard run and finished with 94 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Kuna 46, Middleton 41
Kuna survived a 20-point onslaught from Middleton in the fourth quarter to hang on for the nonconference victory. The teams combined for 919 total yards.
Quarterback Danny Rogers led the charge for the Kavemen, completing 15 of 19 passes for 302 yards and three TDs. Cris Quintero caught two of those touchdown passes and finished with 185 receiving yards on five receptions.
Middleton QB Darin Post totaled 344 passing yards and four touchdowns, three of which came in the fourth quarter.
Centennial 30, Caldwell 0
Ethan Brown got the party started for the Patriots with a safety to begin a dominant defensive effort that saw the Cougars fail to gain 100 yards on the evening. Damon Trafford had a pick-six, while Victor Ngalamulume and Peyton Robinson combined for three touchdowns, the former notching a pair.
Jakob Simmons paced the Centennial rushing attack with 66 yards on nine carries, narrowly besting Ngalamulume, who recorded 60 on equal opportunities.
Nate Jones paced both teams with 87 yards on three catches to pair with Parker Martens, who had a game-high eight catches and 75 yards.
Chad Bowcutt recorded a game-high two sacks, and Mason Denton added a pick and a safety for Centennial, while Tevin Sio, Matias Pizano, and Noah Jaeckels recorded turnovers for Caldwell.
Vallivue 49, Nampa 7
Nick Fox caught four touchdown passes and rushed for a fifth score as the Falcons dominated the Bulldogs. Fox scored on receptions of 36, 37, 78 and 14 yards — all from Lan Larison — in the first three quarters. Vallivue outgained Nampa 590-148 and limited the Bulldogs to nine first downs.
Columbia 45, Mountain Home 6
Columbia started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2014 and matched its win total from a year ago with the dominant victory over Mountain Home.
Emmett 55, Boise 17
Emmett defeated its second 5A school to start the season, routing Boise despite the resignation of coach Mike Schroeder just one day before its season opener.
Weiser 29, McCall-Donnelly 15
McCall took the early lead on Weiser before the Wolverines exploded for 29 unanswered points behind four rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion from Braden Bumgarner.
Weiser’s Swiss Army Knife also recorded an interception but his defensive effort was bested by teammate Jake Eisenbarth, who had a pair of picks.
The Wolverines were outgained 362-296 in total yardage despite nearly doubling up the Vandals on the scoreboard.
New Plymouth 35, Payette 12
The Pilgrims dominated the second half en route to their first victory of the season behind a 387-yard disparity between ground attacks and six recovered fumbles.
Teagan Gross, Austin Robinson and Seth Mowder combined for 362 yards and five touchdowns for New Plymouth, and the team’s defense didn’t allow a single Payette rusher to notch double-digit yardage.
Bryant Gerdes had a standout performance for the Pirates with 135 yards and two touchdowns on 10 grabs.
Notus 53, Pine Eagle (Ore.) 8
Caleb Zimmerman posted four touchdown passes without an interception, and Brandon Fogg notched 129 yards on 11 carries in a rout of Pine Eagle. Michael Zimmerman added 232 yards on 15 carries for the Pirates.
Emmett names interim coach
Emmett officially named Zane Hines its interim coach for the rest of the season this week. Hines has coached at the school for 10 years and previously served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator.
The Emmett School District Board of Trustees accepted Mike Schroeder’s resignation Thursday night in an emergency meeting as the school’s football coach, athletic director and a PE teacher. Schroeder did not return a call Friday seeking comment.
Principal Wade Carter said the school will open the football coaching position in the offseason.
