Yakima Police Department, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Office learned about Jesus “AJ” Avila’s possible whereabouts and were able to confirm his location and apprehend him without incident Thursday afternoon.
“This case has been a high priority for our agency.,” said Nampa Police Lt. Eric Skoglund in a news release. “Finding those who do this type of violence and holding them accountable is part of our mission to make Nampa an even safer community for those who work and live here,”
Police issued a warrant for Avila for first-degree murder by robbery in connection with the shooting death of Ricardo Keith, 25, of Alabama, on June 22 on the 600 block of East Florida Avenue, near Ivy Street in Nampa.
According to Nampa police, about 5:05 p.m., Avila reportedly got out of his car and approached Keith, who was driving another vehicle. Avila reportedly shot the victim once and then returned to his vehicle and fled. Keith was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Police on June 23 located the vehicle Avila was driving on the 1500 block of Garland Street. The vehicle was not occupied.
