Driver of Porsche that plowed into crowd identified
The driver of the car that crashed into a crowd of spectators on Saturday afternoon has been identified.
Roy L. Drennon, 49, of Eagle, was driving a Porsche after the Cars and Coffee event on Overland Road. He made a right turn onto Overland Road and lost control of his car as he was, “kind of showing off for the crowd,” Boise Police Lt. Charles LeBar said on the day of the crash. The vehicle jumped the curb and hit several spectators. Six victims were taken to hospitals by ambulance while five more arrived on their own. The status of the victims has not been released.
According to court records, Drennon has at least eight driving-related citations in Alaska, seven of which involved speeding.
The Boise Police Department said it expects charges to be brought against Drennon pending the results of an investigation and toxicology exam. Drennon did not show signs of impairment on the scene, according to police.
