Looking for a job? Opportunities abound at four-day job fair in Caldwell

More than 60 employers will look to hire workers at one of the largest job fairs in recent memory spanning four days next week in Caldwell.

The hiring event will run from 9 a.m. to noon starting on Monday, June 19. The job fair will take place at the Idaho Department of Labor’s Canyon County office at 4514 Thomas Jefferson St. in Caldwell.

Employers are looking to hire more than 1,100 positions, said Elizabeth Anzaldua, workforce consultant at Labor’s Canyon County office. About 680 job seekers attended a similar event last year. About the same number of employers will be present this year as the event last year, which was perhaps the biggest since the economic downturn ended.

Wages for positions available start at $11 an hour and top out around $40 per hour for some of the highest-paying positions in fields such as accounting, management, nursing and engineering, Anzaldua said.

Job-seekers at other job fairs are capitalizing on a labor shortage resulting from Canyon County’s rock-bottom 3.3 percent unemployment rate, Anzaldua said. Employers are offering higher wages and more training opportunities in efforts to hire more workers, she said.

“A lot of job seekers already have jobs,” she said. “People aren’t afraid to leave their jobs. They are out there doing homework, researching and networking with potential employers.”

Health care companies will be on hand on Monday, followed by transportation on Tuesday, manufacturing on Wednesday and clerical, call center and retail on Thursday. Job seekers should be prepared to interview
