Emmett runner qualifies for steeplechase final at Olympic Trials
Megan Rolland (Emmett High) placed second in the final heat and advanced to the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Monday.
Rolland, who ran collegiately at Humboldt State and is sponsored by Oiselle, finished in 9 minutes, 37.90 seconds to earn the fifth of 14 spots in Thursday’s race (8:48 p.m., NBCSN). Emma Coburn won the third heat in 9:35.28.
The top three in the finals to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics next month; Rolland’s time Monday was 1.95 seconds behind No. 3 qualifier Stephanie Garcia.
Idaho Falls runner Erica Richardson of Boise Betties was 22nd overall, and ninth in Heat 1, in 9:58.43.
