Varsity Extra: Semifinals set for state football playoffs
The final four entrants to the state high school football semifinals punched their tickets Saturday, including Salmon River with a 48-20 victory over Kendrick.
The victory gives the Treasure Valley seven semifinal teams — Mountain View (5A), Rocky Mountain (5A), Bishop Kelly (4A), Emmett (3A), Homedale (3A), Nampa Christian (2A) and Salmon River (1A Division II).
Despite No. 1 rankings, Mountain View and Bishop Kelly hit the road to Pocatello’s Holt Arena because of pre-determined brackets. Both hosted semifinals last year, and the brackets rotate who gets to host.
Also Saturday, Fruitland (3A) fell at Sugar-Salem 28-26 on a last-second TD pass, stopping the Grizzlies’ run at a 10th straight state title game appearance. And Notus lost 34-8 to Raft River in the 1A Division I playoffs.
