7 undefeated football records are on the line. Here’s who will keep them

Only seven undefeated high school teams remain in the Treasure Valley. And after Friday, at least one will earn its first blemish.

Eagle travels to Owyhee in a battle of two perfect 6A teams in Week 6’s top matchup. But they aren’t the only squads putting their records on the line.

We sized up the matchups for every undefeated team left in the Boise area below and handicapped their chances of keeping their perfect season alive for another week.

EAGLE AT OWYHEE

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday

Watch: NFHSNetwork.com

Owyhee (5-0, 2-0 6A SIC River) has flown under the radar thus far. The Storm certainly provide plenty of drama, winning four games by 10 points or less. But Owyhee has played the weakest schedule in the 6A SIC, according to MaxPreps.

That changes Friday with No. 2-ranked Eagle (5-0, 2-0) coming to town. The defending state runner-up started the season as the favorite for the River Division crown. And only Mountain View has stayed within three touchdowns of the Mustangs this fall.

Eagle has owned this budding rivalry so far, winning all three matchups against the Storm. But it pulled out a 7-5 victory last fall and needed a Noah Burnham touchdown with 58 seconds left two years ago for a 21-17 win.

Prediction: Eagle 21, Owyhee 18

MIDDLETON VS. TIMBERLINE

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Thursday at Dona Larsen Park

Watch: NFHSNetwork.com

One more win would make No. 4-ranked Timberline 6-0 for the first time in program history. But the Wolves (5-0, 2-0 6A SIC Foothills) need to score some payback on a short week to achieve that milestone.

Middleton (3-2, 1-1) gave Timberline fits last season in a 21-14 victory. Jake Perez ran for 275 yards and two TDs, and Middleton intercepted Timberline quarterback Jack Brant four times on a windy night in Canyon County.

Timberline’s 5A-leading defense (12.2 ppg) must set the tone early, proving it can stuff the Perez and the Vikings’ run game. Accomplish that mission, and Brant and Hudson Lewis can continue dicing up defenses.

Prediction: Timberline 29, Middleton 15

MERIDIAN AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday

Watch: NFHSNetwork.com

This battle long determined who represented the Foothills Division in the 6A SIC championship game. No. 1-ranked Rocky Mountain (5-0, 2-0) upheld its end of the bargain, but Meridian (1-4, 1-1) fell off and must rebuild.

The Warriors picked up their first win of the season, upsetting Middleton 21-20 last week. A repeat against 6A’s top offense (43 ppg) and rushing attack (297 yards per game) is a lot to ask.

Prediction: Rocky Mountain 41, Meridian 13

SKYVIEW AT BISHOP KELLY

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Thursday

No. 1 Bishop Kelly (5-0, 2-0 5A SIC) looked invincible through four weeks. Then Columbia forced the Knights to hang on for a 22-20 victory last week, providing a possible blueprint to take down BK: Milk the clock, force a couple of turnovers and keep Bishop Kelly’s 5A-leading offense (43.6 ppg) on the sideline as much as possible.

Skyview (2-3, 1-2) will need to duplicate that recipe and catch a couple of breaks to snap the Knights’ 22-game conference winning streak.

Prediction: Bishop Kelly 35, Skyview 20

RIDGEVUE AT VALLIVUE

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday

Watch: NFHSNetwork.com

The Vallivue School District rivalry has never featured so many playoff implications as both teams enter with designs on one of the 5A SIC’s two automatic berths.

Ridgevue (4-1, 1-1) remains just 2 seconds away from a perfect record, while Vallivue (3-2, 2-0) bounced back from a 0-2 start to win three straight. The Falcons own an 8-1 all-time record over their rival, and they look like the team expected to contend into November with the return of Onix Carson (398 rush yards, seven TDs).

The Warhawks continue to prove they are no longer a homecoming opponent. But their four wins came over opponents with a 5-15 record. A marquee victory Friday solidifies Ridgevue as a true contender.

Prediction: Vallivue 27, Ridgevue 22

WEISER AT HOMEDALE

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday

Watch: IdahoSports.com, NFHSNetwork.com

Weiser snapped a seven-year losing streak to the Trojans last fall, the key victory in ending Homedale’s five-year run of 4A SRV championships. Now the No. 3-ranked Trojans (5-0, 1-0) get a chance at payback on their home turf.

Homedale looks like a juggernaut again, rolling to an undefeated start and beating opponents by 29.6 points per game. But Weiser (3-2, 1-0) bounced back from a 0-2 start to turn its season around.

Prediction: Homedale 31, Weiser 15

PAYETTE AT FRUITLAND

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday

Watch: NFHSNetwork.com

No. 2-ranked Fruitland stands ready to move to 6-0 for the second straight season. The Grizzlies (5-0, 1-0) know the meat of their conference schedule lies ahead. But Fruitland must take care of business against neighboring Payette (3-2, 0-1) before it can start thinking of a 4A SRV title.

Prediction: Fruitland 34, Payette 8
