No one wanted a rematch more than Bishop Kelly. And the Knights got it Friday.

Bishop Kelly rolled to a 28-7 home win over Pocatello in the 4A state quarterfinals, avenging a 28-17 loss to the Thunder a year ago in the same round.

Fast-forward 364 days, and the No. 1-ranked Knights (11-0) haven’t lost since.

“We went home crying on that bus (after last year’s loss),” Bishop Kelly running back Peter Minnaert said. “We’ve been looking forward to this game and getting our revenge against this team. We definitely took this game a little more personal than any other game we’ve played.”

The junior led the Knights, turning 36 carries into 251 yards and three touchdowns, including two 5-yard TDs to put the Knights up 14-0 at the half.

“Peter is a physical, hard-nosed kid and works very hard,” Bishop Kelly coach Tim Brennan said. “He’s got a lot of help in front of him, but he did a great job.”

Minnaert headlined an attack that featured seven ball carriers who ran for 360 yards, surpassing last week’s total of 331. Zachary Jacobs added 62 yards on five carries.

Pocatello struggled to find an answer on the ground or in the air, with quarterback Hunter May going 5-for-18 for 148 yards, a TD and an interception. He also led the Thunder with 23 rushing yards.

The Knights’ defense allowed just 198 yards and forced four punts.

“We have an amazing defense,” Minnaert said. “They knew what their jobs and assignments were, and, as always, they executed like they do every week.”

Bishop Kelly will host No. 4 Minico (10-1) in next week’s semifinals.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 30, HIGHLAND 24

Wyatt Farnsworth tracked down a tipped pass for an interception. And two plays later, freshman Valentin Gomez-Ricks broke a 34-yard touchdown run with 28 seconds left to break a tie and lift the Mavericks to a 5A state quarterfinal win at Pocatello’s Holt Arena.

The run capped a breakout performance for Gomez-Ricks, who ran for 168 yards on 28 carries. It broke the final of three ties as little separated the two perennial powers.

Mountain View will travel to Meridian for a semifinal at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Senior quarterback Dawson Wahl led the Mavericks (7-4), going 15-for-27 for 152 yards and three TDs. Makaii Pattwell hauled in six passes for 58 yards and two scores, and Collin Rogers had seven catches for 81 yards and a TD.

Highland dual-threat quarterback Drew Hymas finished 12-for-28 for 129 yards and two TDs, and he ran for 107 yards and a TD.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN 22, POST FALLS 0

The Grizzlies opened the scoring when Gage Tanner forced a safety in the second quarter, and Rocky Mountain’s defense never let up for a road shutout in the 5A state quarterfinals.

Rocky Mountain (10-1) limited the Trojans to 134 yards, including just 2.5 yards per carry from the state’s second-best running offense. Tanner led the way with 13 tackles, including three tackles for loss.

Art Williams followed the safety with a 1-yard TD run and a 14-0 halftime lead. He finished the night with 137 yards on 26 carries.

Quarterback Tegan Sweaney went 6-for-8 for 82 yards. He threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to CJ Jacobsen.

Rocky Mountain will host Rigby (9-2) at 7 p.m. next week in the 5A semifinals.

HOMEDALE 42, SOUTH FREMONT 13

The Trojans forced three turnovers, didn’t allow a point until the fourth quarter and held South Fremont (7-4) to 164 total yards to cruise into the 3A semifinals for the fifth straight year.

Trenton Fisher turned one of those interceptions into a pick-six interception. He also ran for 110 yards and a touchdown. And teammate Rylan Binford ran for 82 yards and three TDs.

Homedale (9-1) quarterback Jaxon Dines finished 15-for-20 for 127 yards and two TDs.

Homedale will host Weiser in the semifinals next week.

WEISER 35, BONNERS FERRY 25

Andrew Enders racked up three total touchdowns, including a 20-yard touchdown pass with 4 minutes left to finally put away the undefeated Badgers (9-1) in the 3A state quarterfinals.

Enders finished 5-for-9 for 141 yards and two TDs, and he ran for 68 yards and another score. He spearheaded a Weiser (10-1) offense that racked up 372 total yards and jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, a lead the Wolverines never surrendered.

Weiser’s Kaleb Grove also ran for 74 yards and a TD, and Brock Spencer finished with 65 total yards and a score.

Weiser will travel to Homedale for a 3A semifinal next week.

SUGAR-SALEM 48, FRUITLAND 21

The top-ranked Diggers (9-0) jumped out to a 41-0 halftime lead to run away with a 3A state quarterfinal victory.

Sugar-Salem ran for 235 yards and averaged 6.2 yards per carry. But no one had more than 10 carries or 60 yards as the Diggers spread the wealth.

Luke Barinaga had a hand in all three touchdowns for Fruitland (5-6). He went 11-for-20 for 164 yards and two TDs. He also ran for 48 yards and a score.

Fruitland’s Theo Jackson also had five catches for 103 yards and two TDs.

ABERDEEN 34, MELBA 30

The Mustangs cut the lead to four points with 10:18 left in the fourth quarter. But they couldn’t get any closer, falling in the 2A state quarterfinals.

Carlos Colunga ran for 66 yards and three TDs to lead Melba (8-2). Cache Beus finished 10-for-18 for 217 yards and a TD. And Noah West-Baranco caught six passes for 147 yards and a 21-yard TD to make it a four-point game.

CAREY 46, NOTUS 16

The Pirates (7-2) fell on their home field in the 1A Division I quarterfinals. Details were not reported.
