Prep football recap: Eagle bounces back. Nampa gets first 5A win. BK shuts out Centennial
Eagle’s defense held 5A’s top-scoring offense through two weeks in check Friday in a 21-7 victory at home over Kuna.
Eagle (1-1, 1-0 5A SIC River) defensive back Tristan Walker stalled two Kavemen drives with a pair of interceptions, while edge Seth Brock provided four sacks.
Eagle quarterback Jake Longson rushed for 104 yards and two scores on the ground, including a 50-yard dash to open up the scoring. Running back Deegan Martinho added 96 yards rushing with a TD on 18 carries.
Fullback Mario D’Orazio scored Kuna’s (2-1, 0-1) lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard pass from quarterback Cole Luekenga. Luekenga finished 18-for-25 for 208 yards.
NAMPA 37, BORAH 21
Daniel Carrillo ran for 242 yards and five TDs to lead Nampa to its first win since returning to the 5A SIC.
Carrillo spearheaded a Nampa (1-1, 1-0 5A SIC River) ground game that finished with 447 yards, including 130 from Dante Avjian.
The Bulldogs scored 24 unanswered points after trailing by one point late in the second quarter against a team that had posted back-to-back shutouts to start the season.
Parker Rushton led Borah (2-1, 0-1) with 136 rushing yards.
BISHOP KELLY 35, CENTENNIAL 0
The Knights (2-0) continue to roll over their 5A counterparts, beating the Patriots for the first time in program history.
Bishop Kelly racked up 294 total yards, including 205 on the ground. Peter Minnaert (70 yards), Benjamin Huskey (62 yards) and Dean Tipton-Wade (53 yards) all found the end zone as part of a balanced attack. And quarterback Hadley Smith finished 8-for-14 for 80 yards and a TD.
Stats for Centennial (0-3) were not reported.
LEWISTON 52, CAPITAL 21
The Eagles fell to 0-3 with a loss on the road.
Joran Peterson threw two touchdowns, a 9-yard score to Ibrahim Talaso and an 11-yard TD to Marcellus Clay. And Brody Call returned a kickoff 90 yards to put Capital on the scoreboard after falling into a 13-0 hole in the first quarter.
MIDDLETON 35, SKYVIEW 28
The Vikings (2-1) raced out to a 28-0 early in the third quarter and held off Skyview’s comeback in a nonconference game.
Skyview’s (0-3) Max Cutforth threw for 210 yards and three TDs, including two to Mason Krahn.
Stats for Middleton were not reported.
BURLEY 62, VALLIVUE 50
Burley (2-0) quarterback Caleb Loveland threw for 414 yards and four TDs to lead the Bobcats to a shootout victory that saw 34 combined points in the fourth quarter.
Burley’s Ramsey Trevino had 194 total yards and four TDs, and Gatlin Bair finished with 163 total yards and three more scores.
Vallivue (0-2) ran for 390 yards in the losing effort. Koa Maio ran for 158 yards and two TDs, and Tyson Fox added 130 yards and two TDs.
POCATELLO 61, RIDGEVUE 12
The Thunder (1-1) jumped out to a 34-0 lead at halftime and led 61-6 after three quarters to roll to a road win in Nampa.
Ridgevue (0-2) scored its only touchdowns on an 8-yard pass from Grayson Heil to Angel Ortega to open the second half, and a Tucker Tiddens 10-yard fumble recovery return to start the fourth quarter. Jaxon Bauscher led the Warhawks with 72 yards on eight carries.
HOMEDALE 49, GOODING 0
Quarterback Jaxon Dines kept the Homedale (2-0) offense rolling throughout the night, going 13-for-15 for 256 yards and four touchdowns.
Mason Strong led all receivers with 140 yards and two TDs on five receptions. And the Senators (1-1) had no answer for the Trojan defense, which forced three turnovers and only surrendered 72 total yards.
MCCALL-DONNELLY 34, NAMPA CHRISTIAN 15
Cole Burtenshaw racked up 174 total yards and four TDs on 11 offensive touches, and the Vandals’ (2-0) defensed forced fived turnovers in the nonconference matchup.
Nampa Christian (0-2) quarterback Aiden Thompson finished 27-for-42 for 259 yards and three interceptions, and Matthew Nevarez ran for 54 yards and a TD.
NEW PLYMOUTH 26, NYSSA (ORE.) 23 (OT)
Zack Conlee led the Pilgrims (2-0) to the overtime victory with a walk-off, four-yard touchdown run.
Conlee ran for 116 yards and two TDs, and New Plymouth quarterback Colton Frotes finished 15-of-31 for 206 yards and two TDs.
NOTUS 58, COUNCIL 32
Carter Woodland ran for 307 yards and two TDs on 23 carries, and Benny Guevara was 7-for-7 for 120 yards and three TDs as the Pirates (1-1) topped Council (1-1) in the battle of the unanimous preseason favorites in Southwest Idaho’s two eight-man leagues.
Notus’ Eli Hill also racked up 156 total yards and two TDs on 14 offensive touches. Stats for Council were not reported.
HORSESHOE BEND 54, IDAHO CITY 44
Kaelun Jones ran for 273 yards and four TDs, and Blayne Meyer added 277 yards and two more scores as the Mustangs (2-0) edged Idaho City (0-2).
GARDEN VALLEY 74, RIMROCK 12
Roni Gomez threw for 140 yards and two TDs, and Aden Aquiso added 118 total yards and a score in a losing effort for the Raiders (0-1). Stats for Garden Valley (1-0) were not reported.
SALMON RIVER 26, CASCADE 16
Tyrus Swift rushed for 125 yards and added 139 yards receiving with two TDs in Salmon River’s (1-1) conference win over Cascade. Tyler Thurston led the Ramblers (0-2) with 127 passing yards and 109 rushing yards with two scores.
