Prep football recap: Borah posts another shutout. Middleton hangs on. Kuna wins shootout
Borah routed Timberline 41-0 on Friday, posting its second straight shutout and scoring on every possession before halftime en route to invoking the running-clock mercy rule against their crosstown rival.
Borah’s (2-0) Parker Rushton ran for 179 yards in the first half before not taking any carries after halftime. And quarterback Korbin McCarney finished 10-for-14 for 199 yards.
Timberline (0-2) senior quarterback Austin Rovig finished 8-for-16 for 97 yards. The Wolves have yet to score a point in their first two games.
MIDDLETON 36, NAMPA 34
The Vikings held off a late Nampa rally to secure a win between two programs new to the 5A SIC.
Middleton (1-1) quarterback Dekker Hagler finished 19-of-28 for 262 yards and four touchdowns. Sawyer Heck led all receivers with 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Tate Johansen provided 161 total yards (58 rushing, 103 receiving) and two scores.
Nampa’s Daniel Carrillo ran for 143 yards and two TDs, including an 11-yard score with 2:18 left in the fourth quarter. But Middleton stuffed the two-point conversion, and the Bulldogs (0-1) couldn’t get any closer.
KUNA 48, SKYVIEW 35
The Kavemen (2-0) scored on offense, defense and special teams in a shootout victory.
Jason Monroe blocked a Skyview punt and returned it 20 yards for a score. And a pick-six interception from linebacker Logan Blades helped put the Kavemen out of reach.
Kuna quarterback Cole Luekenga led the offense, going 13-for-17 for 349 yards and three TDs. And Luke Snarr hauled in four catches for 191 yards and a TD.
Skyview (0-2) quarterback Max Cutforth threw three touchdowns, all three of them to Thad Robinson.
BOISE 17, RIDGEVUE 14
Ryan Hughes kicked a 40-yard field goal in the fourth quarter Saturday to lead the Brave to their first 2-0 start since 2012.
Boise’s Cooper Smith threw a pair of touchdowns after a scoreless first half, a 47-yard strike to Marco Rosellini and a 62-yard score to Joseph Curtis.
Ridgevue (0-1) quarterback Grayson Heil finished 5-for-18 for 116 yards and touchdown, and Mitchell Basterecchea caught four passes for 71 yards.
CANYON RIDGE 55, CALDWELL 6
Conner Willis threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns as the Riverhawks (1-0) handed Caldwell (0-2) its 27th straight loss.
Canyon Ridge’s defense made life tough for Caldwell quarterback Zaylor Bruegeman, who finished 3-for-11 with 96 yards and an interception. Bruegeman scored Caldwell’s only touchdown with a 1-yard run in the third quarter.
TWIN FALLS 41, VALLIVUE 32
The Bruins (1-0) out scored Vallivue (0-1) 20-8 in the second half to rally for a road win.
Twin Falls’ Wyatt Solosabal racked up 181 total yards and four TDs on 15 touches, and quarterback Austin Crumm went 12-for-18 for 222 yards and two TDs.
Tyson Fox led Vallivue by running for 186 yards and three scores on 18 carries.
COLUMBIA 17, FRUITLAND 12
Ikaika Ho ran for 236 yards and two touchdowns, including the winning score as the Wildcats (1-0) open the season on a positive not.
Luke Barinaga threw for a touchdown and ran for 84 yards for Fruitland (0-1), and Lane Roberts ran for another score.
MCCALL-DONNELLY 20, WOOD RIVER 7
The Vandals (1-0) only gave up 92 total yards and a late score to open the season with a win in Hailey, the Idaho Mountain Express reported. Individual stats were not reported.
NEW PLYMOUTH 41, PAYETTE 38
Pilgrims quarterback Colton Frates threw for 302 yards and four TDs, Connor Hawker finished with 133 receiving yards and two TDs, and New Plymouth (1-0) won a back-and-forth affair.
Stats for Payette (1-1) were not reported.
MELBA 38, ELKO (NEV.) 26
The Mustangs (1-0) racked up 225 yards on the ground to open the season with a victory.
Gabe Shaffer led the way with 134 yards and two TDs on nine carries. And Cache Beus finished 9-for-16 through the air for 191 yards and two more scores.
DECLO 36, NAMPA CHRISTIAN 7
Will Garrard threw for 171 yards and three TDs for the visiting Hornets (1-0).
Nampa Christian (0-1) could only manage 167 yards of offense, and the Trojans’ only score came on Devon McDaniel’s 1-yard run in the third quarter.
MARSING 35, OROFINO 12
Marsing quarterback Jordan Blas completed 12-of-16 passes for 142 yards and two TDs, and he ran for two more scores to lead the Huskies to a road when in Shea McClellin’s debut as a head coach.
Marsing’s Cache Hance ran for 81 yards on 20 yards, and he returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.
HORSESHOE BEND 66, CASCADE 14
Kaelun Jones ran for 226 yards and four TDs, and Blayne Meyer ran for another 174 yards and three TDs as the Mustangs (1-0) rolled to a 1A Division II Long Pin victory to start the season. Cascade stats were not reported.
DIETRICH 70, RIMROCK 15
Roni Gomez ran for 108 yards and a TD, and Kas Bachman added 96 rushing yards and a score in a losing effort for the Raiders (0-1).
COUNCIL 40, LOGOS 14
Dahlton Bingham ran for 310 yards, added 93 receiving yards and returned an interception for a touchdown Saturday.
He interception was on of three for the Council (1-0) defense.
