Prep football recap: Middleton crushes Vallivue. Skyview now 4-0. Borah gets 1st win.
Middleton maintained a share of first place in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference with a dominant offensive showing against Vallivue.
The Vikings churned out 643 yards of offense to defeat the Falcons 42-16 on Friday night in Middleton.
Senior quarterback Ky McClure led the 4A classification’s top-ranked offense with 439 passing yards and four touchdowns with one interception. McClure threw three TD passes to Tate Johansen and another to Owen Graviet, who was the Vikings’ top receiver with 11 grabs for 260 yards.
McClure had a hand in five of Middleton’s six touchdowns, scoring on a 3-yard keeper to open the game. Senior Thompson Goodfellow led the Vikings (3-1, 2-0 4A SIC) on the ground with nine touches for 110 yards, including a 67-yard TD run late in the third quarter.
Vallivue was limited to 186 total yards. Quarterback Santi Diaz went 5-for-8 passing for 101 yards, with touchdown passes to Dre Gonzalez and Camryn Deane.
Deane’s 33-yard TD reception with 4:25 remaining in the third quarter pulled Vallivue (2-2, 1-1) within 21-16, but Middleton scored three unanswered touchdowns to secure the victory.
Timberline 35, Kuna 15
Kuna started off on the right foot with a 70-yard TD pass from QB Cole Luekenga to Brayden White for the game’s first score.
But by the end of the first quarter, Timberline (3-1) over took the Kavemen (1-3) for good. Taylor Marcum scored four touchdowns for Timberline, including a 78-yard pass from Ronald Dahlberg and three rushing TDs. Dahlberg also threw a 4-yard TD pass to Anthony Bridges to cement the win.
Timberline linebacker Bobby Lee totaled eight tackles, including three sacks and a fumble recovery.
Luekenga went 23-for-36 for 245 yards and two TDs for Kuna. One went to White (six catches, 104 yards). The other went to Luke Snarr (five catches, 45 yards).
Borah 54, Boise 42
Junior running back Parker Rushton gave Borah a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and finished with 213 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a shootout.
The Lions (1-3) scored eight touchdowns in all as junior quarterback Korbin McCarney completed 12-of-19 passes for 284 yards with TD tosses to Aiden Bolt (6 receptions, 111 yards), Haydin Weaver (2-41) and Bradly Toth (3-94).
Boise quarterback Braden Anderson threw two touchdowns to Ford Songer and one to Tanner Mauer, while Alex Hess added a rushing TD and Tysen Brownlee scored on an 89-yard kickoff return for the Brave (1-3).
Rocky Mountain 58, Centennial 0
The Rocky Mountain defense limited Centennial to just 49 yards of offense in a dominant shutout.
Grizzlies quarterback Tegan Sweaney went a perfect 10-for-10 passing for 208 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Hunter Steacker caught two of those TD passes and finished with a team-best 140 receiving yards.
Lucas Leavitt led the Grizzlies’ ground game with 40 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.
Linebacker Caden Kelley racked up three tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception to lead Rocky (3-1, 1-0) on defense.
Individual statistics for Centennial (1-3, 1-1) were not provided.
Skyview 34, Owyhee 16
Max Cutforth and Atonio Fifita scored two touchdowns apiece as Skyview (4-0) took a 21-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Cutforth completed 12-of-19 passes for 187 yards, but the junior quarterback scored both his TDs with his legs. Fifta totaled 125 yards and two scores on 17 carries.
Ayden Martinez scored the Hawks’ other touchdown on a 93-yard kickoff return to open the second half.
Owyhee (0-4) found the end zone twice in the third quarter courtesy of a 15-yard pass from Matt Irwin to Cooper Hiatt followed by a 4-yard run by Tim Jamerson.
Bishop Kelly 42, Nampa 21
Bishop Kelly’s Seth Knothe is already having a monster season. The senior running back added to it Friday, racking up 276 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries.
Rowan Hynes accounted for the Knights’ other TD, scoring on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Bishop Kelly (2-2, 1-1 4A SIC) led 35-7 after three quarters.
Quarterback Payton Gunter scored two of Nampa’s three touchdowns on runs of 6 and 3 yards, and Gabe Navarro threw a 23-yard TD pass to Trais Higgins late in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs (1-3, 1-1 ).
Emmett 28, Ridgevue 0
Emmett (3-1, 2-0 4A SIC) posted a shutout for the second week in a row, gained 246 yards on the ground and converted on 8-of-9 third-down attempts.
Huskie quarterback Caden Young ran for 118 yards and TD, and he was 12-of-17 for 182 yards and a TD through the air. Jeff Lockett added 120 yards and a score on 26 carries.
Senior quarterback Cole McDonald paced Ridgevue (0-3, 0-2 4A SIC) with 127 passing yards, including completions to six different receivers.
Homedale 38, Sandpoint 21
Jaxon Dines had a hand in three of Homedale’s first four touchdowns as the Trojans (No. 1 in 3A) took down Sandpoint (No. 4 in 4A).
Homedale (4-0) scored the first four touchdowns of the game to stun Sandpoint, including a 37-yard TD pass from Dines to Mason Strong on the Trojans’ opening drive. Dines finished 6-for-12 passing for 87 yards and rushed for 176 yards and two more scores.
Hayden Kincheloe ran for 200 yards and two TDs on 29 carries, and Trenton Fisher added a 1-yard TD run to round out the scoring for the Trojans.
Nampa Christian 43, Marsing 0
Dane Bradshaw and Caleb Johnson each ran for more than 100 yards as Nampa Christian (3-1, 1-0 2A WIC) shut out Marsing (1-3, 0-1).
Bradshaw totaled 166 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Johnson collected 126 yards on 10 touches.
Nampa Christian quarterback Landon Cheney completed 7-of-16 passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Two of Cheney’s TD passes went to receiver Simon de Jong.
The Trojan defense held Marsing to 76 total yards and forced three turnovers.
Melba 74, Valley 0
Melba dominated Valley (0-4) on its home field in a nonconference matchup.
Melba quarterback Cache Beus had 207 passing yards and four touchdowns by halftime, including TD passes to Will Vail, Dillon Stosich and Gabe Shaffer.
The Mustangs (2-2) totaled 329 yards on the ground, getting rushing TDs from Shaffer, Kyler Oakes, Trace Stimpson (2 TDs) and Brendon Svetich. On defense, Shaffer and Marshal Hirtle both returned interceptions for touchdowns.
Wilder 28, Garden Valley 12
Wilder trailed Garden Valley 12-6 at halftime, but the Wolverines couldn’t hang onto their lead.
Freshman quarterback Kyevan Gepford took over in the second half for the Wildcats (2-2), throwing for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Marco Martinez scored the go-ahead TD and solidified Wilder’s victory with an interception.
Adrian Miramontes added two rushing TDs, and Isaiah Lopez carried the Wilder defense with a pair of sacks.
No statistics were reported for Garden Valley (1-3).
Council 48, Timberline (Weippe) 22
The Lumberjacks’ defense made six interceptions, including three it returned for touchdowns. And Josh Gipe went 6-of-9 for 115 yards and three TDs for Council (2-1) in a nonconference win.
