Prep football roundup: Surprising blowout, dominant road wins highlight Week 2

After missing the second half of his junior season with a torn ACL, Eagle quarterback Ben Ford let the Idaho prep football ranks know he’s back in a big way in 2020.

Ford racked up 401 total yards and six touchdowns as Eagle dismantled defending 4A state champion Kuna 64-0 on Friday night at Thunder Stadium.

Ford completed 17-of-20 passes for 301 yards and three TDs, adding another 100 yards and three TDs on five carries.

It was Eagle’s first game of the season after the West Ada school board unanimously cleared its sports programs to start playing games earlier this week.

The state’s largest school district still remains in the red category of community spread of the coronavirus, the highest in Idaho’s back-to-school guidelines. The game was played without fans in the stands.

The Mustangs led 43-0 at halftime and 57-0 about midway through the third quarter to bring on a mercy-rule running clock in the fourth quarter.

Ethan Mikita caught seven passes for 114 yards and two TDs. Jackson Stampfli turned 14 carries into 140 yards and a TD.

Kuna, which finished the 2019 season undefeated, falls to 0-2.

Vallivue 28, Hillcrest 14

Vallivue limited Hillcrest to 149 yards of total offense to improve to 2-0 this season.

Santiago Diaz scored the Falcons’ first three touchdowns and finished with 21 carries for 69 yards. Quarterback Casey Cope closed the door on the Knights on a 1-yard keeper with 7:33 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Cope totaled 41 yards on the ground and completed 8-of-12 passes for 167 yards. Senior receiver Lincoln Marler caught five of those passes for a game-leading 135 yards.

Middleton 39, Minico 13

Middleton scored two touchdowns on special teams to breeze past Minico on the road.

The Vikings (1-0) closed out the first half with a 2-yard blocked punt return by Merit Foote. Then Tanner Ford followed with a 4-yard blocked punt return for a TD.

Ky McClure (3-yard run), Jake Vickhammer (1-yard run) and Cash Cowdery (14-yard reception) also scored early TDs as the Vikings got out to a 33-0 halftime lead.

Emmett 42, Weiser 14

Fruitland 62, Nampa Christian 24

Fruitland completed just one pass for 2 yards while rushing for 540 yards in a victory over Nampa Christian (1-1).

Individual statistics for Fruitland (2-0) were not reported.

Nampa Christian quarterback Landon Cheney completed 18-of-32 pass attempts for 229 yards and two touchdowns but was hampered by three interceptions.

New Plymouth 48, Payette 7

New Plymouth (2-0) amassed 394 yards on the ground in a dominant victory over Payette (1-0).

Six different Pilgrims ran for 27 yards or more, led by Spencer Lyman with 99 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries. Erin Vian reached the end zone through the air and on the ground, first scoring on a 6-yard run and then on a 55-yard pass from Casey Arritola.

Cole Valley Christian 14, Parma 8

Parma (0-2) led Cole Valley Christian 8-6 at halftime, but the Chargers (1-0) captured the win with a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Quarterback Carter Fortin connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Hill with 8:04 to play. No further details were provided.

Marsing 34, Wendell 11

Horseshoe Bend 46, Hagerman 22

Colten Meyer accounted for 314 total yards and four touchdowns as Horseshoe Bend improved to 2-0.

Meyer passed for 226 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 88 yards and two more scores. Hunter Howerton eclipsed the century mark with 105 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns.

Horseshoe Bend’s defensive effort was paced by Keagan Smith (9 tackles) and Logan Bromgard (14 tackles, 2 INTs, fumble recovery).

Notus 56, Council 14

Kaeden Clemens racked up five total touchdowns to help Notus (1-0) roll past Council (0-1).

Clemens rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries and also completed six passes for 295 yards and three more scores. Carter Woodland (120 yards, 2 TDs) led the Pirates’ ground game, and Mack Shimondle hauled in three catches for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Kieran Miraz contributed seven solo tackles to spearhead Notus’ defensive effort.

Glenns Ferry 58, Idaho City 26

Wilder 51, Salmon River 8

Wilder earned its first win of the season by taking out Salmon River (0-2).

Diego Rodriguez tossed three touchdowns for the Wildcats, while Moises Perez (2 rush TDs, 1 rec. TD) and José Leon (1 rush TD, 1 rec. TD) showcased their versatility.

Jacob Sandoval sparked Wilder defensively with a pair of interceptions.

Carey 78, Garden Valley 42
