Salmon River football punches return trip to state championship game

Salmon River advanced to the 1A Division II state title game for the fourth time in five seasons with a 36-20 win over Carey on Friday at Holt Arena in Pocatello.

The Savages (10-1) play Kendrick (9-1) next Saturday in the Treasure Valley with a shot at winning back-to-back titles and their fourth first-place trophy since 2012.

Salmon River led 22-6 at the half, taking advantage of three Carey fumbles. Tucker Boyd paced the Savages with 148 rushing yards, 237 passing yards and four total TDs.
