PLAYER OF THE YEAR: JONATHAN SWAINSTON, WENDELL
The pick: Part of a “dynamic duo” with twin brother Jordon, the 5-7 junior point guard helped the Trojans win a state title. He averaged 18.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.7 assists per game.
Coach’s comment: “Jonathan is a great point guard with a really quick release,” Wendell coach AJ Kelsey said. “He scored the last 11 points of the state finals game to win.”
What others are saying: “He was a huge factor in leading Wendell to a state championship and proved to be extremely clutch in the biggest moments,” Ambrose coach Jordan Whittenburg said. “The kid is a winner and his individual talent caused matchup problems for other teams while setting all his teammates up for success.”
What’s next: Swainston will try to close out his career with back-to-back titles.
