Boys state basketball: Timberline takes third, Columbia earns first trophy, McCall wins
Treasure Valley teams didn’t go home empty-handed on the final day of the Idaho high school boys basketball state tournament.
Timberline (6A), Columbia (5A) and McCall-Donnelly (4A) each hoisted hardware on Saturday.
Here’s a roundup of how District Three teams fared in consolation action.

6A STATE TOURNAMENT
TIMBERLINE 52, BOISE 42: The Wolves brought home hardware for the second straight season, besting 6A SIC foe Boise in the third-place contest at Centennial High School.
Senior Alex Ko (20 points, 7 rebounds), senior Jacob Heyne (15 points, 5 rebounds) and junior Kole Hudson knocked down two 3-pointers apiece as the Wolves (18-11) finished 7-for-16 from beyond the arc (43.8 percent).
Junior Will Gebert (12 points, 5 rebounds), senior Michael Nance (11 points) and sophomore Isaac Thacker (10 points) led the way for the Brave (13-15). Boise was trying to earn its first state tournament trophy since 1997, when it finished third.
MADISON 40, BORAH 38: Bobcats senior guard Nash Humpherys made two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to edge the Lions for the consolation trophy Saturday morning at Centennial High School.
Humpherys, a Boise State signee, racked up a game-high 20 points with four steals, three rebounds and two assists, including a 4-for-9 performance from 3-point range for Madison (23-3).
Reserve Ramos Tshishiku was the leading scorer for Borah, totaling eight points and four rebounds, while Hendrix Castro had seven points and six boards, and Colton Dennis and Dylan Luekenga had six points each.
Borah (12-16), which led by as many as 12 points, had a chance for a game-winner in the closing seconds, but its 3-point heave from beyond half-court was off the mark.
5A STATE TOURNAMENT
COLUMBIA 67, MIDDLETON 55: The Wildcats made history with their victory over the conference rival Vikings on Saturday at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian.
Columbia, which was making just the second state tournament appearance in program history, brought home hardware for the first time with its consolation trophy.
The Wildcats shot 55 percent overall and 42.3 percent from 3-point range — knocking down 11-of-26 shots — for their first win over the Vikings in four tries this season.
Senior forward Blake Hansen contributed 19 points, six rebounds and five assists for Columbia (16-13), and sophomore guard Max Keller chipped in 18 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Senior Blake Bishop (21 points, 7 rebounds) and junior Tye Cornwall (19 points) led Middleton (18-9).
4A STATE TOURNAMENT
MCCALL-DONNELLY 60, MARSH VALLEY 49: The Vandals capitalized on a strong third quarter and 55.2 percent shooting to defeat the Eagles for the third-place trophy at Eagle High School.
Senior guard Sam Penny converted on 8-of-11 shots for a team-best 20 points with seven rebounds, and junior guard Sam Scott (16 points) and senior forward Michael Foster (13 points, 5 rebounds) also reached double figures for McCall (16-10). Senior Michael Wyman pulled down a team-leading 11 rebounds.
Senior forward Kaden Hansen led the Eagles (14-13) with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.
3A STATE TOURNAMENT
SODA SPRINGS 56, NEW PLYMOUTH 49: Junior guard Cooper Thompson netted 26 points with six rebounds, three steals and two assists to carry the Cardinals to a win over the Pilgrims in the consolation final at Capital High School.
Junior Gavin Hansen (14 points) and junior Preston Ozburn (10 points) also scored in double figures for Soda Springs (16-11).
Junior guard Josiah Gustin led New Plymouth (18-9) with 18 points, and juniors Cohen Evans and Ashton Robinson added 13 points and nine rebounds apiece.
FIRTH 61, AMBROSE 58: Senior guard Tristen Trevino poured in a game-high 34 points, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Cougars in the third-place game at Capital High School.
The Archers (16-10) had the ball with 5.6 seconds left, but Trevino’s potential game-tying 3-point attempt was off the mark.
Firth (20-6), which trailed by as many as 13 points, rallied for the win behind sophomore center Wyatt Killpack’s 21 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Brycen Andersen added 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.
2A STATE TOURNAMENT
VALLEY 63, RIVERSTONE 41: The Vikings earned their first state tournament trophy since 2015 with a victory over the Otters in the consolation championship at Vallivue High School in Caldwell.
Senior guard Pedro Robles notched a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds to pace Valley (24-1), and sophomore forward Devin Christensen (14 points) and senior forward Nathan Christensen (15 points) also reached double figures as the Vikings shot 52.1 percent as a team.
Senior Amer Sangha was the top scorer for Riverstone (21-4), totaling 12 points with four rebounds, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot.
1A STATE TOURNAMENT
WATERSPRINGS 57, CASCADE 43: The Warriors collected their first state tournament trophy in program history with a win over the Ramblers in the consolation final at Caldwell High School.
Watersprings (22-4) shot a blazing 54.5 percent overall and 57.1 percent from 3-point range while out-rebounding Cascade 32-20.
Senior Matthew Kinoshita led the way for the Warriors with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting, and senior Titus Driver totaled 16 points and eight boards, and senior Jonny Thienes had 10 points.
Senior guard Cole Olson paced Cascade (18-8) with 21 points.
ROCKLAND 79, GARDEN VALLEY 60: Junior guard Woodrow Lowder connected on 7-of-14 3-point attempts and racked up 33 total points as the Bulldogs defeated the Wolverines for third place at Caldwell High School.
It marks the fifth straight year that Rockland (22-4) has headed home with a state tournament trophy.
Junior guard Maxon Yearsley (16 points, 7 rebounds), sophomore guard Cody Perrin (15 points) and junior guard Madix Miller (12 points, 7 rebounds) led the way for Garden Valley (20-10), which lost in the third-place game for the second year in a row.
