4A All-Idaho boys basketball team: Dominant big man, prolific guards among state’s best
Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: ISAAC DAVIS, HILLCREST
Why he is player of the year: The 6-7 sophomore center was a force all season. But he commanded everyone’s attention at state, carrying the Knights to their first championship. He shot 68% from the floor while averaging 14.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.
Coach’s comment: “Isaac is the most dominating player in the state of Idaho. He has great post moves that no one can stop. His vision is top-notch,” HIllcrest coach Dave Austin said.
What others are saying: “(He) cleaned up every board and allowed the Knights to play at a relentless pace with confidence that they had a dominant force on the glass,” Wood River coach Juan Martinez said.
What’s next: He begins his junior offseason with offers from Utah State and Idaho State.
TYLER MEDARIS, MIDDLETON
The defending state player of the year made the first team again after leading the Vikings to a third-place finish. The 6-7 senior wing averaged a double-double of 13.5 points and 11.1 rebounds, and he added 4.1 assists and 1.5 blocks as a do-it-all force.
JULIAN BOWIE, POCATELLO
Boise State, Utah State and Idaho State have already offered the 6-3 sophomore guard. He moves up from the second team after leading the Thunder to the state finals and racking up 19.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
COOPER KESLER, HILLCREST
The state champs’ leading scorer is back on the first team for the second straight year. The 6-3 senior guard poured in 18.1 points per game in myriad ways. But he wasn’t just a volume scorer — he added 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists as Hillcrest’s unquestioned leader.
ISIAH HARWELL, CENTURY
The 15-year-old made a memorable freshman debut, racking up 18.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. Texas Tech, Idaho State and Cal Poly have extended offers to the 6-5 guard. More are sure to come as he makes a name for himself nationally.
COACH OF THE YEAR: DAVE AUSTIN, HILLCREST
He led the Knights on a 24-game winning streak to capture the first state title in program history.
