PLAYER OF THE YEAR: KENYON SPOTTEDHORSE, LAKESIDE
Why he is player of the year: The 6-foot junior point guard kept the high-flying Knights running as they won their first state title since 1997 to cap off a perfect season. He was a weapon all over the floor, averaging 15.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.5 assists.
Coach’s comment: “He does everything for us — scores, rebounds, assists, steals and is just what makes our team go,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said.
What others are saying: “Lakeside was a really good team without Kenyon on the floor. With him on the floor, they were truly a great high school basketball team,” Mullan coach Paul Elston said.
What’s next: He will return for his senior season to chase back-to-back titles.
COVY KELLEY, GARDEN VALLEY
The defending state player of the year made another run at a repeat award, pouring in 25.2 points a night. But the junior was no one-trick pony. He dominated inside and outside, racking up 7.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.0 steals a night.
TALON TWOTEETH, LAKESIDE
The Knights could always rely on the 6-foot senior guard to finish off any close games. He had a knack for the dramatic, and the ball always seemed to find his hands down the stretch. He averaged 14.6 points and 1.8 steals a game.
TREY SMITH, CAMAS COUNTY
The 6-2 senior guard lit up the scoreboard night after night, averaging 27.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks. He topped 30 points 10 times this season, and he finished the season with 1,649 career points.
JAMES BODILY, NORTH GEM
He lit it up all season, averaging 24.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.2 assists. But the 6-2 junior wing dialed it up at district and state, scoring 32 points a game. He set a class state tournament record with 94 points (31.3 ppg).
COACH OF THE YEAR: JAMES TWOTEETH, LAKESIDE
He built the state’s top offense (79.0 ppg) in all classes en route to a perfect season.
