3A All-Idaho boys basketball team | 2020

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: DAWSON CUMMINS, KIMBERLY

Why he is player of the year: The 6-4 senior guard and unanimous selection repeats as the 3A All-Idaho Player of the Year. He averaged 20.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.0 assists a game.

Coach’s comment: “The fact that he improved as much as he did from last season is a testament to his tireless work ethic,” Kimberly coach Daren Garey said.

What others are saying: “His range from the 3-point line was insane, and if you left the lane open, he would throw down a dunk. I don’t think I’ve seen a player with his athleticism and versatility on both ends of the floor for 3A in my time as a coach,” Sugar-Salem coach Shawn Freeman said.

What’s next: He will play baseball for the College of Southern Idaho.

HADLEY MILLER, SUGAR-SALEM

After averaging 11.8 points and 3.2 assists, the 5-11 senior point guard repeats as a first-team all-state selection. He was also a two-way, first-team All-Idaho selection in football. He scored 20 points and added seven assists in the state finals.

HYRUM LINDSEY, FRUITLAND

The Grizzlies could use the 6-4 junior forward all over the floor. No matter what they asked of him, he kept producing, leading the team in scoring (13.5 ppg) and rebounds (7.0). He always found a way to come up clutch when needed.

PEYTON BAIR, KIMBERLY

The future Mississippi State decathlete gave the Bulldogs one of the state’s top athletes. Kimberly used the 6-4 senior to do all the dirty work on defense. But he also produced on the stat sheet, averaging 11.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals.

GRADEN NEARING, KELLOGG

The 6-2 senior guard broke a bone in his shooting hand Jan. 17, and his scoring only went up afterward. After missing three games, the long-range shooter adjusted to attack the rim. He finished with 16.7 points, 2.6 steals and 2.2 assists per game.

COACH OF THE YEAR: SHAWN FREEMAN, SUGAR-SALEM

With three titles in four years, Freeman repeats as the 3A coach of the year.
