Cassie Bro accepted an assistant coaching position at Buford High in Georgia last weekend, allowing her to coach with one of her mentors, she said.

While recruiting as an assistant at the Air Force Academy, Bro developed a relationship with Gene Durden, who has won more than 700 games.

“It’s really hard to leave, and it’s hard to leave the girls because they’re awesome,” Bro said. “But this is one of those things I couldn’t pass up.”

Bro led the Patriots for four years, compiling a 75-25 record. Centennial reached the state tournament each of the past two years, winning a 5A District Three title in 2014-15 and reaching the state championship game last season.
