Girls district basketball: 10 Boise-area teams faced elimination. These 5 advanced
Playoff basketball in the Treasure Valley kicked into high gear Tuesday as the 6A Southern Idaho Conference hosted the bulk of its district tournament play-in games.
Timberline, Boise, Rocky Mountain and Mountain View survived the elimination games Tuesday. They joined Capital, which won a play-in game Monday, to advance to the full 6A District Three Tournament field.
The eight-team tournament will determine the league’s five state tournament qualifiers, resuming with the first round Thursday.
Below is a recap of Monday’s and Tuesday’s play-in round highlights.

6A SIC GIRLS BASKETBALL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
MOUNTAIN VIEW 45, MERIDIAN 42: Meridian came out of a timeout with 10.7 seconds left needing a 3-pointer to force overtime. Quincy Keller made sure that didn’t happen.
The senior guard blocked back-to-back 3-point attempts by the Warriors to send Mountain View to the 6A District Three Tournament for the first time since 2023.
“Tonight, that defensive effort at the end, it just really shows you who she is,” Mountain View coach Derek Pegram said. “She is willing to do whatever it takes to win, and she’s super competitive.”
Keller — the reigning 100- and 200-meter track champion — finished with a team-leading 12 points in a balanced effort in which eight Mavericks scored two points or more.
“I think, honestly, we just came together as a team,” Keller said. “Everyone had a role to play, and everyone did their part and stepped up.”
Mountain View led 22-19 at the half and by as many as seven points with 4:02 remaining in the fourth quarter.
But the Warriors got a triple from senior guard Kiet Martinez with 2:36 to play and then scored on a fastbreak layup from sophomore Aniya Hancock-Lynch to senior Olivia Fluckiger with 1:11 left to make it a two-point game, 44-42, with 1:11 remaining.
After failing to score on their ensuing possession, the Mavericks got an offensive rebound from senior Addie Lee with 17 seconds to go to extend their possession. Sophomore Brooklyn Clausen was then fouled with Mountain View in the bonus, making 1-of-2 free throws with 15.1 seconds on the clock.
Meridian got the ball across half court and called a timeout, setting up their potential game-tying play with 10.7 seconds left.
Then Keller stepped in and ended the threat.
Clausen and Lee each added eight points for Mountain View (14-8).
The Warriors (9-13) were led by sophomore MK Puello with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 48, KUNA 38: The Grizzlies (14-8) withstood a barrage of 3-pointers and a late comeback to punch their ticket to the 6A District Three Tournament.
No. 7 seed Rocky Mountain led by 23 points early in the fourth quarter, only to watch No. 10 Kuna force seven fourth-quarter turnovers and hit a trio of 3-pointers to cut the deficit to seven with 1:23 left. But a Grizzlies’ lineup with zero seniors hung on by making 4-of-6 free throws in the final minute.
“They showed great grit and determination, even when things weren’t going well,” Rocky Mountain coach BJ Humphreys said. “Kuna did a great job putting some pressure on us. We turned it over a couple times, but we didn’t panic. We figured out the press. And we were able to take care of it and make some free throws down the stretch.
“It wasn’t pretty. But our great determination to stick with it paid off for us.”
Rocky Mountain’s defense dictated the game all night, holding Kuna’s array of 3-point shooters to a 6-for-26 (23%) night behind the arc. The Kavemen scored in spurts, but they also were held without a field goal for stretches of 14:13, 5:55 and 4:41.
The Grizzlies dominated the glass, outrebounding Kuna 41-23. Freshman forward Kerington Kollmann led the onslaught with a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Junior Liv Sangsland added 14 points and eight boards, and freshman Journey Smith chipped in 10 points.
“As a freshman, I sort of expected her to plateau or fiddle out a little bit during the season,” Humphreys said of Kollmann. “But she’s just gotten better and better. She just competes, and she’s got a great attitude. She just goes out there and basically outworks people.”
Sophomore Izzy Ysais paced Kuna with 14 points, and senior Jaeda Morrison added 10 points in the season-ending loss for the Kavemen (5-17).
TIMBERLINE 81, RIDGEVUE 8: The Wolves jumped out to a 38-2 lead in the second quarter and never looked back, rolling to a 73-point victory by forcing 25 turnovers and shooting 59% from the floor.
Lexi Moore led fourth-seeded Timberline (18-4) with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Meanwhile, Emmi Swillie and Whitney Watson both scored 17 points and finished an identical 8-for-9 from the floor.
Kaitlyn McGee paced Ridgevue (1-21) by scoring six of its eight points.
CAPITAL 45, OWYHEE 39: McKenna Chavez posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to extend the Eagles’ season Monday and end the defending state champs’ quest for a repeat.
Eden Francis added 10 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks for sixth-seeded Capital (13-9), and Miriam Stafford gave the Eagles a third player in double figures with 10 points.
Sophomore Jude Rampton led 11th-seeded Owyhee with 17 points and three steals. The Storm ended the year with a 7-15 record.
BOISE 71, CENTENNIAL 34: The Brave (14-8) cruised past Centennial (3-18) on Tuesday. No details were reported.
