4A All-Idaho girls basketball team: The elite players from the state’s deepest division
Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by each classification’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: BRINLEY CANNON, SHELLEY
Why she is player of the year: The BYU commit carried the Russets to the state title game in their first trip to the 4A state tournament. The 6-foot junior guard could play, and excel, at any position on the floor. The production machine finished with 20.7 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
Coach’s comment: “She is the complete package of an athlete — inside/outside game, one of the best offensive and defensive players,” Shelley coach Jessica Carlson said.
What others are saying: “Brinley plays the game the right way. She is obviously a highly skilled player, but she is a tremendous leader and teammate,” Pocatello coach Sunny Evans said.
What’s next: She returns for her senior season and another chance at a title.
CARLIE LATTA, MINICO
The 5-9 junior point guard holds three Division I offers and led all of Idaho in scoring, pouring in 25.0 points per game. She scored in a variety of ways, making her impossible to stop, let alone contain. She also added 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals per game.
SHAY SHIPPEN, SKYLINE
The sophomore makes a repeat appearance on the All-Idaho first team after improving on her breakout freshman performance. The 5-10 guard stuffed the stat sheet with 22.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.8 steals. Three Division I teams have already offered her spots.
ALIYA STROCK, SANDPOINT
A terror on the offensive and defensive ends, the 5-5 junior guard delivered key plays in key moments throughout the Bulldogs’ state title run. She averaged 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 4.1 assists as the straw that stirred the champs’ drink.
KARLIE BANKS, SANDPOINT
The 5-10 junior wing had her hand in everything for the state champs. She controlled the paint defensively, led the transition up the court and then posed a true inside-outside threat, finishing with 12.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.
COACH OF THE YEAR: WILL LOVE, SANDPOINT
The Sandpoint alum led one of the state’s oldest schools to its first state title in boys or girls basketball.
