PLAYER OF THE YEAR: KENNEDY GILLETTE, SUGAR-SALEM

Why she is player of the year: The deadly 3-point shooter gave opponents fits while leading the Diggers to their third state title in the past five years. The 5-11 junior guard had a hand in everything, averaging 13.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 assists. She shot 51% from the floor.

Coach’s comment: “(She was a) huge scoring threat that was very difficult for opponents to defend. (She) can score anywhere on the floor but is very unselfish and always looking for open teammates,” Sugar-Salem coach Crystal Dayley said.

What others are saying: “She makes basketball look easy and doesn’t need the ball in her hands to be a threat. She can score at every level and makes everybody around her better,” Gooding coach Derrick Lyons said.

What’s next: She’ll return for her senior season as the Diggers defend their title.

ALEXIS MONSON, FILER

A two-time Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference Player of the Year, the 5-8 senior point guard carried the Wildcats to the state tournament. Her nonstop motor fed countless steals and layups as she averaged 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 4.2 steals.

HAILEY HARRIS, SUGAR-SALEM

An undersized 5-8 forward, the senior put the Diggers on her back at the state tournament en route to a championship. She led Sugar-Salem to a 94-8 record in four years on varsity and averaged 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals in her final season.

RYLIE EDLEFSEN, SNAKE RIVER

Opponents quickly learned they better build their game plans around the 5-6 sophomore point guard. She was a force putting the ball on the floor and dialing up long-range shots, averaging 14.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals.

KINLEY BROWN, TETON

The 5-8 senior forward led the Timberwolves to their first state championship game appearance. An athletic force on both sides of the court, she averaged 14.2 points and 4.3 rebounds while drawing every opponent’s attention the moment she stepped on the court.

COACH OF THE YEAR: CRYSTAL DAYLEY, SUGAR-SALEM

She led the Diggers to their third title in the past five years and their fourth under her tutelage.
