In the final home game of their high school basketball careers, Timberline’s Sophia Glancey and Audrey Taylor did not disappoint.

Led by Glancey’s 19 points and Taylor’s 12 points, No. 1-ranked Timberline continued its dominating season with a 57-47 statement win over No. 5 Boise on Tuesday.

In a battle between the top two defenses in 5A, both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm in the first eight minutes of action. Despite a pair of turnovers by both sides in the final three minutes of the opening quarter, Boise (15-3, 12-3 5A SIC) kept the game level with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by sophomore guard Avery Howell.

But Timberline (19-1, 15-0) would answer right back. A drive by Taylor would set up two free throws to cut an early deficit to one point. A minute later, Taylor would snag steals on back-to-back possessions, the final one setting up an easy layup by junior guard Emma Heninger.

“We went into the locker room, and we thought about how we played in the first half,” Taylor said. “We came out knowing that we needed to push on defense and get offensive boards. It all starts with our defense.”

With just a two-point lead at the break, the Wolves let loose in the second half. With the Brave looking to swing the momentum, a Glancey offensive rebound would create an and-one basket to put the Wolves ahead 32-28 late in the third quarter. Two possessions later, a Boise traveling violation set up another Glancey basket to put Timberline up by eight.

“We had a game plan,” Timberline coach Andy Jones said. “The kids executed really well and our guards played pounding defense. I’m really proud of them.”

The senior duo of Glancey and Taylor then took over the fourth quarter. A physical Brave defense helped Taylor draw an and-one basket to put the Wolves up by 11. Two possessions later, a Glancey handoff to Taylor in the paint would create an easy basket to keep the game out of reach.

“It was really about execution and being more disciplined than (Boise),” Glancey said. “We were willing to play offense longer than they were willing to play defense. We were taking good shots and going up strong.”

Boise senior post Ashley Banks led the Brave with 13 points. But Glancey and Taylor combined for 31 points to extend Timberline’s winning streak to eight games. Having already clinched their second straight 5A SIC regular-season title and the top seed at next week’s district tournament, the Wolves have the recipe to put together a deep playoff run.

“We can’t think about the wins,” Glancey said. “We just have to think about the next game and keep moving forward,”
