Darius Arredondo’s two-run single to left field highlighted a four-run fifth inning as Middleton defeated conference rival Kuna 4-1 in the first round of the 4A tournament Thursday at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.

Middleton faces Twin Falls in a 4 p.m semifinal Friday. The Bruins knocked off defending champion Blackfoot 4-1 in their opener.

In the final game of the night, Pocatello defeated Bishop Kelly 4-3. The Knights led 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but Pocatello rallied for the walk-off win.

3A: VALLEY TEAMS SWEEP OPENERS

Fruitland, Homedale and Weiser did not allow a run while plating 25 in first-round wins at Fruitland High. Homedale draws Bonners Ferry in a 4 p.m. Friday semifinal, while league foes Weiser and Fruitland — the defending champion — square off at 7 p.m. for a spot in Saturday’s championship game.

2A: NAMPA CHRISTIAN ADVANCES TO SEMIS

Leadoff hitter Nick Tuttle went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Tyler McConnell earned the win on the mound in Nampa Christian’s 10-0, five-inning rout of Wendell at Orofino High. McConnell gave up four hits while striking out six in the shutout. The defending champion Trojans play St. Maries at 4:30 p.m. MT Friday in a rematch of last year’s semifinal, which Nampa Christian won 6-4.
