By the slimmest of margins, Mountain View won both team championships at the 5A District Three cross country meet Friday at Eagle Island State Park.
It was the third straight district title for the Mountain View boys, but the first time the Mavericks have swept the boys and girls team titles in the same season.
The Mountain View boys finished with 58 points, two ahead of Rocky Mountain, while the Maverick girls won on a tiebreaker with Meridian after both teams totaled 65 points. The tiebreaker was determined by the finish of each team’s sixth runner.
Boise freshman Eve Jensen won the girls individual title, completing the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 2.19 seconds. Rocky Mountain senior Michael Slagowski claimed the boys championship, crossing the finish line in 15:38.50.

The state meet is Saturday, Oct. 31, at Farragut State Park in Athol.
“It’s going to be crazy close at state,” Mountain View coach Tracy Harris said. ”The competition for state is right here out of this district.”
