4 Boise-area baseball teams clinch regional berths. District softball playoffs start
Saturday marked a turning point for high school baseball and softball in the Treasure Valley.
The baseball district tournaments wrapped up in the Boise area with Rocky Mountain (6A), Mountain View (6A), Nampa (5A) and Nampa Christian (3A) clinching spots in the new regional tournament.
The IHSAA plans to announce the full regional matchups, at-large berths and schedule Sunday. We’ll post those tournament brackets when they are available.
Meanwhile, the softball district tournaments tipped off for the 6A SIC, 5A SIC and 4A SRV around the region.
Here are all the top highlights of the day.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 9, TIMBERLINE 0: The Mavericks needed a second chance to secure their regional berth. But Tate Baird took care of business in the if-necessary game of this regional qualifier.
After dropping the first game 8-5, the senior right-hander fired a four-hit shutout and struck out five to damper Timberline’s Cinderella run.
Preston Flournoy carried the Mavericks (17-9) at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. He delivered the first big blow with a two-run triple in the bottom of the first, and he capped the scoring with a line-drive single in the sixth.
Timberline finished 11th out of 13 teams in the SIC’s regular-season standings and threatened to steal a state berth by pushing this double-elimination regional qualifier to its full extent. But the loss in Saturday’s nightcap means the Wolves (9-17) must wait until the final MaxPreps rankings are revealed Sunday to see if they’ve climbed high enough for an at-large berth.
Timberline entered Friday ranked No. 16.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 13, RIDGEVUE 6: The Grizzlies erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to avoid an if-necessary game in their regional qualifier and clinch a berth in next week’s regional round.
Cooper Frasure gave Rocky Mountain (19-7) the lead with a two-run double to start the rally. Javin Ellett added a one-run double in the next at-bat, and Aiden Henzler added another RBI double two batters later.
The Grizzlies kept stringing together hits until Frasure capped the scoring with an RBI single to left field as Rocky Mountain sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning.
Rocky Mountain will need to travel for the regional round, but it won’t learn its opponent or seed until Sunday.
The loss doesn’t eliminate Ridgevue (12-10-1). The Warhawks will also have to wait until Sunday to learn if they received one of four available at-large berths.

NAMPA 2, BISHOP KELLY 0: The Bulldogs (12-13) slayed their second straight giant to clinch a berth in the 5A regional round behind another lights-out performance from Jaxon Wade.
The junior pitcher threw a two-hit shutout against the conference’s No. 1 seed, adding three strikeouts and never allowing a runner past second base. He previously held Emmett to one run through 6 ⅔ innings in a loser-out game Wednesday.
Nampa broke open the pitcher’s duel with two runs in the top of the sixth. Ethan Stauffer doubled to right field to break the scoreless tie, and Kai Sena added a sacrifice fly as the Bulldogs beat the league’s No. 1 and No. 2 seeds to secure a regional berth.
The loss means Bishop Kelly (13-11) must wait to see if it receives one of four at-large berths in the regional round. The IHSAA plans to announce the full regional schedule Sunday.

CENTENNIAL 10, MERIDIAN 7: The Patriots trailed 6-4 entering the sixth inning. But Charlize Veldhouse swung momentum with a three-run single, then added an RBI single in the seventh to finish 2-for-3 with four RBIs as Centennial (13-12) staved off elimination.
Josie Moorhouse and Avery Simpson both added doubles for the Patriots, who advanced to face second-seeded Timberline in the first round Monday.
Alexia Flygare homered twice and finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs for Meridian (11-11).
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 13, BORAH 7: The Grizzlies teed off Saturday, cranking five home runs and sending eight of their 18 hits for extra bases in an elimination game.
Danica Quinn led the way with a pair of home runs and four RBIs. But Megan McCormick, Brooke Singelyn and Aubrey Sorensen each added a bomb as No. 6 Rocky Mountain (14-11) advanced to face No. 3 Mountain View on Monday.
Kayla Campbell also homered for Borah as the reigning state champ ended the season 4-19.
CAPITAL 13, BOISE 6: BYU commit McKenna Chavez homered twice, breaking a 4-4 tie with a solo shot before adding a three-run bomb to power the Eagles in a must-win game to extend their season.
Lizzy Turpen added a triple, a home run and three RBIs, and Juel Cavesuela also homered as Capital advanced to the district tournament. The Eagles (14-10) will face top-seeded Owyhee on Monday.
Kamryn Newbery led Boise (12-11) with a double and a solo home run.
KUNA 10, RIDGEVUE 6: Rylee Mangum started and finished the game dominating in the circle, holding Ridgevue to one unearned run and two hits while striking out 16 over 6 ⅓ innings in an elimination game.
Ridgevue (0-22) did the bulk of its damage in the fifth inning off Natalee Thornton as Kuna tried to change pitchers. But Mangum shut down the rally with a strikeout and held the Warhawks in check the rest of the way.
Mangum also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Elle Wemhoff doubled, and Remington Quick drove in a pair of runs as Kuna (13-11) advanced to face Eagle in the first round of the district tournament.

SKYVIEW 12, NAMPA 2 (5 innings): Lily Bittinger and Grace Chambers both homered, Liv Dean finished with four RBIs, and the Hawks plated nine runs in the top of the first inning on their way to a mercy-rule over their crosstown rival.
The win lifts Skyview (11-13) into the district semifinals, where the Hawks will face top-seeded Middleton on Monday.
BISHOP KELLY 4, CALDWELL 1: The Cougars scratched out a run in the top of the first. But Lauren Fettic shut down Caldwell the rest of the way, finishing the complete game allowing one run on three hits while striking out 12.
The UNLV signee also ripped a two-run home run to right field in the fifth inning to add to a one-run lead. The Knights (17-5) advance to face Vallivue in the semifinals Monday.
VALLIVUE 11, EMMETT 3: The Falcons strung together 15 hits and broke loose for five runs in the third inning to avoid an upset in the first round of their district tournament.
Abbie Eggleston tied the game with a two-run single up the middle in the third, Maris Farner drove in the go-ahead run with a bunt single and Vallivue (18-6) played add-on from there.
Farner also earned the win in the circle, surrendering three runs (all unearned) on three hits with four strikeouts in six innings.
