Idaho state tennis tournaments: Boise-area schools clean up, sweeping 5A team awards
Treasure Valley teams brought back a haul of trophies from the state tennis tournaments Saturday. But the leaderboard saw several new teams climb to the top.
The Timberline boys team captured its first state championship, riding individual titles from the boys doubles pair of Alex Guo and Clay Koessler to the trophy. The Wolves also received key points from its state champion mixed doubles pair of Maud Slots and Austin Avery.
Timberline finished with 49.5 points, just 8.5 points ahead of Boise in second place.
Meanwhile, Eagle ended Boise’s three-year run atop the 5A girls standings. The Mustangs cruised their first girls team trophy since 2015 by racking up 62.5 points — 22.5 points clear of Boise.
Eagle’s Tatyana Larsen claimed the 5A girls singles title a year after winning the 4A girls singles crown at Bishop Kelly. The Mustangs’ girls doubles pair of Lucy Merrick and Emma Tarducci also finished atop the podium.
The Weiser boys and Parma girls made it a Treasure Valley sweep of the team awards at the 3A state tournament, too.
