Prep recap: Eagle softball stuns undefeated Skyview. Owyhee clinches state berth
SOFTBALL
Eagle 11, Skyview 8: The Mustangs rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh to snap Skyview’s 29-game winning streak in the 5A District Three Tournament semifinals and clinch a spot at state. Hayleigh Oliver delivered the final blow with a three-run home run to center field to break an 8-8 tie. Boise State commit Sydney Groves hit two home runs, and Lizzy Tommasini also homered for Eagle (16-8), which faces Owyhee for the district title at 5 p.m. Friday at Borah.
Owyhee 6, Mountain View 4: The Storm (19-7) clinched a spot at state in their inaugural season with a win over the Mavericks in the 5A District Three Tournament semifinals. Home runs by Kina Watts and Rylie Haith put the Storm up early, and the two combined to drive in six runs. Mountain View rallied late, but Owyhee’s Mantha Hatzenbeller struck out six to secure the victory.
Homedale 3, Weiser 0: Dani Sitts struck out 11 in a four-hit shutout, leading the Trojans (19-4-1) to their eighth straight 3A District Three Tournament title. The sophomore also led the team with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Weiser pitcher Tobie Noyer allowed only three hits and struck out six in the loss.
BASEBALL
Weiser 10, Fruitland 0: Two pairs of brothers would be more than enough for the Wolverines (20-4), who shut down Fruitland to take the 3A District Three Tournament title. Willy Shirts handled the mound, striking out six in a three-hit shutout. Brother and leadoff hitter Jack Shirts went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Brock and Brett Spencer combined for three hits, two RBIs and a home run in the victory.
