Winners of the Treasure Valley athletes of the week (Jan. 14-20)
The votes are in, and three athletes from the 5A Southern Idaho Conference won the Idaho Statesman’s athlete of the week contest.
Centennial senior Ryan Wilson took home the top honors in wrestling in the most tightly contested race. He earned 50 percent of the 5,299 votes to Luke Chapman of Eagle’s 48 percent. Wilson won the 145-pound bracket at the prestigious Tiger-Grizz tournament last weekend.
Centennial also scored the girls basketball athlete of the week honors. Senior Kayla Carlson earned 71 percent of the vote after racking up 28 points, 10 rebounds and three assists against Meridian last week.
Timberline senior Andy Ford won 64 percent of the vote in the boys basketball athlete of the week race. He scored 26 points, shooting 8-for-16 from the floor and 6-for-12 behind the 3-point line, last week against Meridian.
