Winners of the Treasure Valley athletes of the week (Jan. 7-12)

Idaho Statesman

The first week of the Idaho Statesman’s new athlete of the week fan voting saw impressive turnout from throughout the Treasure Valley. But two small-school athletes took home the top honors.

Nampa Christian’s Zach Evenhouse earned 3,731 votes to win the boys basketball athlete of the race with 56 percent of the vote. The senior averaged 16.5 points and five rebounds in his last four games as the Trojans (9-7, 3-3) currently sit tied for third in the 2A Western Idaho Conference.

In girls basketball, Compass Charter’s Amanda Richael dominated the voting, earning 981 votes for 82 percent of the total votes cast. The sophomore led the Aviators with 17 points in a 31-27 win at 1A Division I WIC rival Idaho City.

Thanks to everyone who voted, and stay tuned for next week’s athletes of the week voting, which goes live Monday afternoon.
